ST. CATHARINE OF SIENA PARISH
READING, PENNSYLVANIA
DECEMBER 28, 2014
Gn 15:1-6;21:1-3: Abraham believed in God. As a result,
God gave him and his wife a son in their old age. The
family thus becomes the sign of the faith of human beings
and of the love of God.
Heb 11:8, 11-12,17-19: Abraham believed God’s promises
and put his faith in Him, living that faith in every phase of
his life. And since God is faithful to His promises, faith
becomes the source of hope and happiness for his family.
We should place our trust in God’s promises.
Lk 2:22-40: Joseph and Mary take Jesus to the temple in
Jerusalem to be presented to the Lord. Simeon recognizes
Him as the Anointed of the Lord and blesses Him. The
child returns to Nazareth and grows to maturity.
Today’s Message - Family Life is rooted in the
unconditional love of God as witnessed by the Holy Family.
God blesses the faith of Abraham and Sarah in their son,
Isaac. The child Jesus and His parents are blessed by
Simeon.

A Recipe for a Happy New Year!
Take twelve months. Clean them
thoroughly of all bitterness, hate, and jealousy.
Make them just as fresh and clean as possible.
Now cut each month into twenty-eight,
thirty, or thirty-one different parts, but don’t
make up the whole batch at once. Prepare it one
day at a time out of these ingredients. Mix well
into each day one part of faith, one part of
patience, one part of courage, one part of
work. Add to each day one part of hope,
faithfulness, generosity, and kindness. Blend
with one part prayer, one part meditation, and
one good deed. Season the whole with a dash
of good spirits, a sprinkle of fun, a pinch of
play, and a cupful of good humor.
Pour all of this into a vessel of love.
Cook thoroughly over a radiant joy, garnish
with a smile, and serve with quietness,
unselfishness and cheerfulness. You’re bound
to have a Happy New Year!
A BLESSED AND HAPPY NEW YEAR
TO EVERYONE FROM MONSIGNOR

Scheduling of Mass Intentions
It has been a longstanding tradition in the Church to
accept a donation for a Mass to be celebrated for the
intentions of a person, living or deceased. The donation
for a Mass is $10. Frequently family members desire to
schedule Masses for specific days and times, and, as
much as possible, we try to accommodate such
requests. So that all parishioners may have equal
access to desired dates and times for Masses, the
following guidelines are followed:
1. Mass intentions with no particular date desired
can be requested at any time.
2. Requests are on a first-come, first-served basis.
3. No more than 3 requests for the scheduling of
particular dates per deceased and only 3
weekend Masses if more than 1 deceased is
being remembered.
4. Mass intentions are not accepted for Christmas,
Easter Triduum, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.
Requests of Mass intentions can be made during regular
office hours.
MASS BOOK - 2015 - The Mass Book for
2015 will be open the third week in
January. You may stop by to make your
requests Monday thru Friday from 9 a.m. until 3
p.m.

The Family Fully Alive on Sunday, March 22, 2015. Come
as a family and enjoy an evening of faith-filled activities, a
guest speaker, and a family meal. The event will be held
at St. Catharine of Siena Parish (4975 Boyertown Pike,
Reading) from 6 to 8 PM. Registration details to follow in
the coming months. Any questions, visit our website at
