Post Holiday Poinsettia Care
Place poinsettias near a sunny
window where it will have the most
available sunlight. A window that
faces south, east or west is better
than one facing north. Poinsettias
prefer temperatures between 60-
70°F. However, don't let the plant
touch the cold window pane. Also,
it is best to keep the poinsettia away
from cold drafts or heat outlets. If
the pot was wrapped with decorative foil, punch a hole in the foil at
the bottom of the pot for water
drainage and place a saucer underneath the pot.
It is important to water your
poinsettias on a regular basis. Examine the soil daily, and when the
surface is dry to the touch, water the
soil until it runs freely out the drainage hole in the container. The
amount of water recommended in
the table for use in various sized
containers ensures that enough water will be applied so that some will
run out the drainage hole. If a saucer
is used, discard the water that collects in it. Do not leave the plant
standing in water. Overly wet soil
lacks sufficient air, which results in
root injury.
A wilted plant may drop its
leaves prematurely, so check the
soil frequently. Plants exposed to
high light and low humidity require

Baltimore Council Report
Kiwanis Club of Lancaster continued its tradition of volunteering
as ‘bell ringers’ for the local Salvation Army. Sixteen Kiwanians in
teams of two worked eight one hour
shifts December 13 ringing the bell
at Kroger on East Main Street in
Lancaster.

years as the ‘Downtown Club’,
meets 11:30 a.m. for lunch most
Wednesday’s at ‘The Lodge in
Downtown’ Lancaster. (No meetings are scheduled Dec. 24 and 31
2014).

Temperatures are very important
for the longevity of poinsettias as
well. To keep the plant in bloom,
maintain it at a temperature of 65F
to 70F during the daylight hours
and, if possible, move it to a cooler
place at night. Because root rot disease is more prevalent at temperatures below 60F, do not put the
poinsettia in a room colder than this.
Avoid exposing the plant to hot or
cold drafts, which may cause premature leaf drop.

Fairfield Towne Crier
Baltimore Council met December 8 with Keller, Hochradel,
House, Hankison and Mohler present. Hamilton was absent. Also
present were Mayor R. Kalish, Village Solicitor J. Feyko, Chief M.
Tussey, Village Administrator S.
Brown, and Fiscal Officer F. Welker.
The Village Administrator went
over his report with Council.
Safety will meet Jan. 12 at
6:30pm. Planning and Zoning will
meet Jan. 15 at 7pm.
Solicitor Feyko stated there was
no new legislation. He also asked
for an executive session to discuss
possible litigation.
Chief Tussey went over the Police Report with Council.
Mayor’s Report was out.
Second reading for Ordinance
2014-41, an ordinance to amend
the Village’s 2014-2015 pay plan.
There was discussion about this
Ordinance. A motion was made by
Keller to remove the full time administrative assistant, second was
made by Hankison. Roll call results were 5 yeas, 0 nays. Motion
carried. This will go to the next
Finance Committee meeting.
After the three readings were
suspended by a 5-0 vote, a motion
was made by Keller to adopt Ordinance 2014-41 as amended, second
was made by Hankison. Roll call
results were 5 yeas, 0 nays. Ordinance adopted 12-8-14 and effective 1-8-15.
Second reading held on Ordinance 2014-42 to initiate a sidewalk restoration grant program.
Second reading held on Ordinance 2014-43, amending Ordinance 2007-24 (an ordinance to
initiate a Downtown Business Façade Grant Program).
Ordinance 2014-44 amending
the 2014 Appropriations Ordinance approved 5-0 as an emergency.
Motion to cancel the 12-22-14
Council meeting approved 5-0.
Council moved into executive
session at 8:15pm to discuss potential litigation and reconvened at
8:30pm.
With no further business to
come before Council, meeting was
adjourned at 8:30pm.
