MCSO PRESS RELEASE
December 22, 2014
Today, Mohave County Sheriff announced that he will return the Mine Resistant Armored Patrol vehicle
(MRAP) which recently became the point of controversy.
The MRAP originally requested over two years ago was not received and in its place this much larger unit was
received. Never put into use due to its size, Sheriff McCabe requested it be returned for the smaller unit that was
originally requested.
The Sheriff was recently advised the likelihood of that happening was slim to none. Therefore, the unit will be
returned to the military. Still believing that an armored car is a viable piece of equipment; staff will research acquiring
a civilian made armored car.
ACCIDENTAL SHOOTING – TOPOCK
Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an accidental shooting early Sunday (12/21) afternoon. At about
12:20 p.m., deputies responded to the area on BLM land on the river front road. Upon arrival, deputies learned that
family members were target shooting with handguns. While David Wayne Galdi, 50, of Riverside, CA, was shooting at
a steel target, part of the metal casing from the bullet ricocheted and struck him in the left temple. Galdi was
transported by ambulance to Valley View Medical Center with a non-life threatening wound. Galdi was treated and
later released.
SEARCH AND RESCUE – HUALAPAI MOUNTAINS
Mohave County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Units responded early Friday (12/19) evening to stranded subjects in the
Hualapai Mountains. Eddy Gray, 34, of Kingman, was self-reporting via a cellular phone that his family including his
wife and two young children are stranded because their vehicle blew two front tires. At about 7:00 p.m., SAR
members were dispatched to the area and located the Grays approximately 6 miles in on Flag Mine Road from the
Hualapai Mountain Road. Apparently the Grays drove their two-door Saturn sedan on a posted 4-wheel-drive road of
tough terrain. The Grays were in good health and they were transported to their residence.
RECOVERED VEHICLE – CEDAR HILLS (EAST OF KINGMAN)
Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Carlie Logan Tarbox, 26, a transient, Sunday (12/21) evening for
possession of stolen vehicle, felony. At about 10:15 p.m. deputies responded to an attempt to locate out of Yavapai
County Sheriff’s Office regarding a stolen 2004 Buick sedan with a New Mexico’s license plate traveling westbound on
the Interstate 40. Apparently the vehicle was involved in a hit and run in Yavapai County and reported stolen out of
Albuquerque, NM. Deputies responded to the Petro Truck stop off of the Interstate 40 at 970 Blake Ranch Road and
located the reported stolen vehicle at a gas pump. The vehicle was unoccupied. Shortly thereafter, deputies located
the female driver hiding inside the business. The driver was identified as Tarbox. During conversations with Tarbox,
she said the car was running so she took it. Tarbox was taken into custody without incident. She was transported and
booked into the Mohave County Jail. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
