MOHAVE COUNTY Tom Sheahan Jim McCabe SHERIFF CHIEF DEPUTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE MCSO PRESS RELEASE July 6, 2012 AGGRAVATED ASSAULT– DOLAN SPRINGS Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Charles Albert Beighley, 57, of Dolan Springs on Thursday (7/5) night for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a prohibited weapon, felonies. Approximately 8:00 pm, deputies responded to a call at a residence in the 18000 block of Peach Drive and contacted the 72 year-old male victim. The victim reported that he had been staying with Beighley for a short period of time. The victim told deputies that Beighley had awaken from a nap and accused the victim of stealing items from the residence. The victim reported that Beighley began to throw his belongings into the yard. The victim advised he retrieved his items and got into his vehicle to leave the property. The victim reported as he was leaving, Beighley fired a shotgun several times at his vehicle. Deputies observed a bullet hole on the passenger side of the vehicle. Beighley was contacted and admitted to firing the weapon. During a search of the residence, deputies located the weapon used. A record check showed Beighley to have numerous felony convictions and is prohibited from possessing any weapons. Beighley was taken into custody without incident. Beighley was transported and booked into the Mohave County Jail. WEAPONS OFFENSE – KINGMAN Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Michael Ray Thomas, 23, of Kingman on Thursday (7/5) evening for possession of a weapon by a prohibited person, a felony and for an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. Approximately 7:15 pm, deputies observed a male subject on a bicycle in the 2700 block of Thompson Avenue. Deputies observed the male begin to pedal faster and continue to look back at them. The male subject then turned into an empty lot and exited the bike. Deputies contacted the male, identified as Thomas. While speaking with Thomas, deputies observed an empty holster on his hip. During further conversations with Thomas, he admitted to throwing a gun into the bushes when he saw deputies. Deputies located the 22 caliber handgun. Record checks showed Thomas to be a prohibited possessor due to prior felony convictions. Checks also showed Thomas to have a misdemeanor warrant for failure to pay fines issued by Kingman Justice Court. Thomas was taken into custody without incident. Thomas was transported and booked into the Mohave County Jail. DRUGS – KINGMAN Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies arrested James Daniel Carter, 42, of Kingman on Friday (7/6) for possession of dangerous drugs, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, felonies. Approximately 12:00 am, deputies conducted a traffic stop in the area of Norrie Drive and Northern Avenue. Deputies contacted the driver, identified as Carter. Deputies smelled a strong odor of marijuana inside the vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, deputies located a small plastic bag containing a white crystal substance, a scale and a glass pipe with burnt marijuana. A field test confirmed the white crystal to be methamphetamine. Carter was taken into custody without incident. Deputies responded to a call on 6/28 evening at a residence in the 2100 block of Lone Star Drive and contacted the victim. The victim reported that items were taken from the master bedroom in the residence, totaling approximately $850. Deputies observed the damage to the door. During investigations, deputies learned that McElwain had been at the residence earlier in the day. On Thursday (7/5) at approximately 7:00 pm, deputies contacted McElwain and after conversations, he admitted to taking the items. McElwain was taken into custody without incident. McElwain was transported and booked into the Mohave County District II Substation. WARRANT ARREST – FORT MOHAVE Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Tina Marie Artiglio, 24, of Mohave Valley on Friday (7/6) morning for an outstanding warrant. Approximately 2:00 am, deputies contacted Artiglio in the 5000 block of Calle De Media. A record check showed Artiglio to have a misdemeanor warrant for failure to appear issued by Lake Havasu City Justice Court. Artiglio was taken into custody without incident. Artiglio was transported and booked into the Mohave County District II Substation. SPECIAL MCSO PRESS RELEASE July 6, 2012 SPECIAL – COLORADO CITY Mohave County Sheriff Tom Sheahan and deputies began daily patrols in Colorado City Arizona. The funding for the patrols in this community came from a grant provided by the office of Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne. The grant of $500,000 will pay for deputy sheriff overtime and expenses to provide fair and unbiased law enforcement services to this community on the Arizona Utah border. A complaint was recently filed by The United States Department of Justice against the Colorado City government and especially noted the actions of the local city Marshal's office for numerous civil rights violations.
