Pasco Sheriff`s Office - Pasco County Sheriff`s Office
For all the success we have accomplished together as a community, putting criminals in jail, preventing crime, and helping those in need, we have hit a crucial point for the Sheriff’s Office and we need your help. This is due to a lack of compensation and pay for our members which is causing Deputies to depart to other agencies for purely financial reasons With a growing population, this shortage of Deputies greatly impacts you. Area Starting Salary Average $45,263 $45,500 $45,381 St. Pete PD $39,581 $47,349 $48,505 TPD Those members who are leaving are still living in Pasco County and are just working for a different agency. They have changed their car and their uniform, but not their home. This includes over 100 former Pasco Sheriff’s Office law enforcement members employed by the Tampa Police Department In 2012, 20 members resigned from law enforcement positions In 2013, this number increased to 28 In 2014, 44 law enforcement members resigned In 2015, so far, 25 law enforcement members have resigned already, with 25 more projected by the end of the year Of the members who have resigned in 2015 who had already completed their FTO period, while they were pleased with the agency and administration, a majority have specifically cited pay as a contributing factor. My decision to seek other employment was a family decision, and was based solely on my financial situation. Deputy, SWAT member, 4 year college degree, over 3 years Emphasis added This was not an easy decision to make. The almost six years here have been very rewarding. I’ve enjoyed working for this agency and having the honor to serve a very successful team dedicated to the citizens of this county….My decision to leave is purely financial and is not a reflection of this administration. Detective, Property Crimes, 2 year college degree, over 5 years Emphasis added It is with a heavy heart that I have been placed in the position to make this decision which is based solely on finances for my family as I find it increasingly difficult to support my family on the wages offered after 9 years of employment. Detective, Property Crimes, over 9 years Emphasis added Although I could not be more satisfied with the Sheriff’s Office as an agency, I can no longer justify making sacrifices in order to live within the financial constraints caused by its lack of funding. Detective in Property Crimes and Vice, over 6 years experience Emphasis added Pinellas S.O.- $3,000 signing bonus and $500-$3,000 relocation bonus with 3+ years of experience St. Petersburg P.D.- 1 step per year of creditable service up to 5 steps for experienced officers- 100% academy sponsorship + salary $37,107 for new hires Polk S.O.- $2,000/month stipend plus full scholarship to attend dual certification academy (not employed by S.O. during this time) Hillsborough S.O.- base salary of $35,838.40 during training academy and orientation for new hires Tampa P.D.- Looking at a potential raise of over 8% this year alone “Deputies flee Pasco County for higher pay” Fox 13, June 6, 2012 “Pasco sheriff: Deputies leaving because of low pay” Pasco Tribune, June 17, 2014 “Pasco sheriff worried about losing deputies over pay” Tampa Bay Times, February 13, 2014 Agency Population Officer Count Officers per 1000 2015 Budget Tampa Police Department 352,741 1017 2.88 $143,170,906 St. Petersburg Police Department 252,372 622 2.46 $91,236,875 Pinellas County Sheriff's Office 378,927 875 2.31 $215,079,330 Polk County Sheriff's Office 402,305 763 1.9 $138,677,482 Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office 887,882 1283 1.45 $386,351,018 Pasco County Sheriff's Office 440,299 604 1.37 $97,659,661 Public safety is consistently ranked as the most important issue in Pasco County as well as throughout the country.
