43:rd EDITION
A WOrld of
handball
Each year, about 1050 teams
participate in Partille Cup.
This also means almost 20
000 participants from 50
nations. The tournament
is played every summer in
the city of Gothenburg at 60
fields. All fields consist of artificial grass. We believe that
Partille Cup has so many participating teams and continues to increase, because the
participants are very satisfied. A magical feeling is created when the entire world is
coming together and gets to
know each other during one
intense week. The meetings
between people are thrilling
experiences for many. The
fact that food, fields and any
other associated activities
are of good quality is something you get on top of all the
other experiences.
Partille Cup has always been
the largest youth tournament
in handball. Maybe that is
because it also was the first.
When Partille Cup was played
for the first time in 1970 it
was played in the community
Partille just outside of Gothenburg. In 2004, the tournament had grown and moved
into the city of Gothenburg.
The event has never stopped
developing and today Partille
Cup is so much more than
a week of handball. Thanks
to our social projects Olympic Development and Partille
Kenya Cup Trophy Partille Cup
is alive all year around and
contributes to the spread of
handball internationally.
We can´t wait!
To see you all here in Gothenburg July 2012.
There is much to say about Partille
Cup. The tournament was founded
in 1970 and has been played every year since then. Partille Cup has
evolved over the years and is the
largest and also the most unique
and international youth handball
tournament in the world. Throughout the years more than 350 000
youths have participated.
Participants remember Partille
Cup with joy. Maybe because Partille Cup is so much more than just
handball. The Opening Ceremony
in a crowded Scandinavium, Players Club with thousands of young
people from around the world, the
city of Gothenburg with its stunning coast and northern Europe’s
largest amusement park Liseberg,
is only a few things you can experience in addition to the handball
matches. We believe that the joy
depends on the fact that Partille
Cup is a meeting place for the
entire world of young handball
players. A place where everyone,
no matter if you are from Brazil,
Kenya, Egypt or the United States,
speak the same language - handball. A place where anyone who either are playing to win or just want
to learn more about handball and
get to know people from all over
the world are welcome.
A place where you are also very
welcome!

OPENING CEREMONY
Magical and powerful
The Opening Ceremony of Partille Cup is guaranteed to
be an experience to remember
Tuesday
July 3
2012
Partille Cup’s Opening Ceremony is one of the most
appreciated events during the tournament and possibly also the most unique. It is certainly something
that stays in the memory from Partille Cup. In the
past, the ceremony where more like a parade, outdoors at a sports field. Today it is quite different.
Certainly the part where all participating nations are
presented remains, but the Opening Ceremony today
offers so much more. During one and a half hour you
06 | PARTILLE CUP 2012
will be part of a magical experience. Imagine a crowded indoor arena with almost 13 000 spectators, cheering, singing and applauding at the same time. The
noise level is as high as the feeling. Flag parades,
dancing and more spectacular performances are filling the program. Just as difficult as it is to describe
this experience with words, it is to not think about it
without having a big smile on your face.
“
The feeling is indescribable when the
entire world is presented with music,
dance and amazing
numbers.

Handball unites and spreads joy,
just as music and dancing does.
It is probably because of that our
disco for the participants is so
popular. More than 10 000 young
people visit the disco during the
week. In the beginning the disco
was held in an old hockey arena
in Partille, but nowadays it takes
place in Svenska Mässans large
event halls. Today the production of
the disco is a giant thing and the
experience even greater. The disco
is only for participants and the
dance floor crowded with boys and
girls from all over the world showing
off their hottest moves. The pace
is fast, the music nice and the atmosphere is perfect.

LEADERS PARTY
What is a party?
According to wikipedia
A party is a gathering of people who have
been invited by a host for the purposes of
socializing, conversation, or recreation. A
party will typically feature food and beverages, and often music and dancing as well.
Some parties are held in honor of a specific person, day or event. Parties are often
made with a theme to create a powerful
impression and more satisfied guests.
The theme will be notable in everything
you do - the invitation, food, beverages,
music, clothes, activities and the general
atmosphere.
The Leaders Party
A special night, exclusively for all the leaders.
During an evening the leaders get
to amuse themselves more than
others. The Leaders Party, which
is attended by 2000 leaders from
around the world, tends to be a
great night. It doesn´t take long
after dinner until the more enthusiastic leaders start to dance on
the tables. This is not recommended, but we usually let that kind of
behavior pass on nights like this.
The idea is to offer a rock show
with many wonderful, captivating,
beautiful and amazing numbers.
The program has been very promising over the years and with
more performing artists than ever
the Leaders Party meets all kinds
of expectations. Get there early if
you are hungry, because between
19 and 21 a buffet is served for
all leaders who have a Leaders
Party Card. And the welcome drink
is included!

home of the Champions League

LET THE GAMES BEGIN
The matches in the group and play-off are played on artificial grass. The finals
are played indoors at the Scandinavium arena and Valhalla Sport Halls.
4000 matches are played
during Partille Cup. If all matches would be played on one
single field, it would take more
than two months, with matches
around the clock to finish the
tournament. With more than
50 fields, the tournament is
played from the first whistle to
the last finals in only 5 days.
The matches are played outside
on artificial grass in the centre
of Gothenburg and at Kviberg.
Although the finals are played
in the indoor arenas Scandinavium and Valhalla. Approximately
220 referees are needed to play
all the matches. They are recruited from various countries with
the task to make the matches
as fair as possible. But sometimes it’s hard. Many teams are
incredibly talented while others
have less experience. But what
is most important during Partille Cup is to have fun, get to
know friends from all over the
world and develop as a handball
player.

GOTHENBURG
GOTHENBURG CITY
Gothenburg is a friendly city with a lot to offer between the matches. Of course you should
visit the amusement park Liseberg, but then what? Maybe a visit at Universeum, or a shopping tour in Nordstan.
There is an explicit purpose to
make Gothenburg a leading city of
events – not only in Sweden but
also in an international point of
view. That is why the atmosphere
is so hospitable whenever there is
an event in the city – for example
during Partille Cup.
According to a survey made by the
magazine Kupé last year Gothenburg was chosen to be the best
city for tourism in Sweden.
In a way, the appointment is not
surprising – Gothenburg was for
example nominated as the best
city for tourists in Europe two
010 | PARTILLE CUP 2012
years ago. That is positive feedback for all those who work hard
with tourism.
No matter if you are participating
in the tournament or just watching
from the side line – the city wants
you to enjoy your stay.
The compact inner city and the
good infrastructure is big advantages when you’re about to explore
the city.
So take care and enjoy your visit
in the best tourist city in Sweden.

LISEBERG
Do you dare?
ATMOSFEAR
The new attraction
this year is called
AtmosFear. It is located in the Liseberg Tower, with a
height of 146 meters above the sea
level. It is Europe’s
tallest free fall attraction and
compared to the rest of the world there
is only one tower that beats AtmosFear.
The ride starts underground in the basement of the tower, and from there it takes
around 90 seconds to reach the top. The
return journey is somewhat faster – you
are in free fall for just over three seconds.
Reaching a speed of over 100 kilometers
per hour, passengers go back underground, as the brakes aren’t applied until
you reach the basement. During braking,
passengers are subjected to the maximum g-force allowed: 4 G. Do you dare?
The most popular rides at Liseberg during 2011
1. Lisebergbanan 1,32 million rides
2. Kållerado 1,13 million rides
3. FlumeRide 1,11 million rides
4. AtmosFear 1,0 million rides
5. Balder 0,90 million rides
Liseberg
Northern Europe’s largest amusement park
At Liseberg you can enjoy everything from food and entertainment
to the most breathtaking rides.
Liseberg is for everyone, but
mostly for kids and young people.
The park has 36 attractions. For
the kids there are calm and easy
rides. Teenagers find their favourites among Flumeride, Höjdskräck-
en and the worlds´ largest rollercoaster made of wood – Balder. At
Liseberg the summer gets dizzier,
crazier and wilder than ever and it
is easy to spend many hours exploring the attractions and rides.
Liseberg has 3,2 million visitors
every year and is the most popular
tourist attraction in Sweden.

KENYA TROPHY
In the heart of Africa handball is developing and brings hope for a better future.
Partille Cup Kenya Trophy is an
annual handball tournament in
Kenya. It is played in Nyeri, close
to Mount Kenya, with more than
800 players. It might not seem
much compared to Partille Cup in
Sweden, but the participants’ biggest efforts is not the tournament
itself, but getting there. Many of
them travel countless kilometers
by foot from small villages in the
014 | PARTILLE CUP 2012
area to get to Nyeri. Some of them
have to walk for days. The tournament is played on a big field,
which is divided into twenty playing
fields. There is almost as many
participating girl’s as boy’s teams.
Partille Cup has since 2004 supported Mt Kenya Handball Club
by donating equipment which has
been contributed by participating
teams. Handball has developed
much faster than expected in the
area, even though it has faced
challenges. Many young people
are orphans who have lost their parents in aids and other diseases.
Others live with their grandparents
in the slum with temporary sheds
made out of recovered wood and
corrugated iron. Playing handball
gives them a possibility to forget
about their situation for a while
and just have fun with other kids.
Now, almost every school has now
their own handball team, both for
boys and girls.
Mt Kenya Handball Club hopes
that the tournament in Kenya will
become international and that
teams from other continents than
Africa will participate.

What is Partille Cup?
Partille Cup
during WC
2011
3 handball profiles thoughts about the tournament
Partille Cup took an important
role during the Men´s World
Championship 2011 when the
official draw was held during
the Leaders Party.
Dr. Hassan Mustafa, President IHF
I´m always happy to attend the Partille Cup and believe the
tournament is very important for handball. Just the numbers
are incredible, 19 000 athletes at Partille Cup means that it
is even bigger than the Olympic Games. I have been at the
tournament 7 times and Partille Cup is very important for the
future and the development of handball. May all participants
compete in the spirit of fair play!
The International Handball
Federation’s president looked
like he enjoyed himself when
nation after nation was drawn
into their groups. Close to 500
invited guests, one team from
every nation that participated
in the World Championship in
Sweden made the atmosphere
in Scandinavium even better.
150 VIP-guests watch the draw,
which was also broadcast on TV.
The Championship was held
in January 2011 and the Scandinavium arena held the first
group division matches. The
winner of the WC 2011 was
France.
This is not the first time the
Leaders Party has been the center of attention. There have been
a couple of other occasions:
Stefan Lövgren, Handball Legend
In my opinion there is no other place like Partille Cup. I feel really strong about the tournament, not just because it is played
in my hometown but because it is unique to gather more than
1000 teams from 50 countries at one place. The atmosphere
that lives around the city is like a manifest for handball and
shows that the sport is growing and a platform, not only to
develop yourself as a handball player but also as a human being with understanding of different cultures and backgrounds.
Everyone should have experienced Partille Cup – at least once
in a lifetime.
2006
The official draw for Euro 2006.
The 7th Women´s European
Championship. Held in Sweden
and the winner was Norway.
Johanna Ahlm, Viborg HK (DEN)
2008
For me Partille Cup means so very much. I have participated
in the tournament since I was 9 years and although much has
happened over the years I still remember the first Opening
Ceremony, then outdoors at Vallhamra. I’ve also been in the
finals 10 times in my youth. Partille Cup gives you so many
incredible memories, and fun summer days, and I will always
carry with me some of Partille Cup. Unfortunately I cannot be
young forever and alloud to play, but you cannot be too old for
Partille Cup. There is something for everyone!

School accommodation
CAPTURE THE REAL SPIRIT OF PARTILLE CUP
If you want to get the real Partille
Cup feeling, accommodation in a
school is the option for you. You
are staying in a class room or sport
hall with your team and have other
teams from all over the world as
neighbours. You can hang out in
the common areas or play together
at the school yards. We use more
than 30 schools which are located
throughout Gothenburg and you
can easily access the playing fields,
the schools restaurants and the
other places where activities are
going on either by bus or tram. For
everybody staying at our schools
an All Inclusive Card is included in
the participation fee, you can read
about the card at page 17. Breakfast is served at your school while
lunch and dinner is served at a
school in the city centre. At each
school you will have your very own
Partille Cup Hosts. They are
staying at the school during the entire week and
are there to make your
stay as pleasant and enjoyable as possible and
will help you if any kind of
questions occur. You will definitely get to know people closely
and find friends from all over the
world. Most teams choose to stay
at their own mattresses, but you
can also rent beds and beddings
from Partille Cup, this is especially
good if you are travelling far to get
here. Staying at the Partille Cup
schools is an extraordinary experience which will give you many good
memories.
