“Baptism of the Lord”
Baptism is an experience of re-birth, an act of dying
to our old self and rising to a new self in Christ. It is
the moment when we are endowed with a new
identity as children of God. This was a privileged
moment in the life of Jesus – a moment of deep
affirmation of his own life and mission and
confirmation of this truth by the Father who sent
him. The process of God becoming man also takes on
a new expression.
Jesus loves us so much that he also accepts and
participates in this process of being born again. The
Father, in confirming the sonship of Jesus, affirms
him in his life and mission and shows that we through
baptism, are also called to be and to become His sons
and daughters.
The act of dying and rising symbolized by baptism is
a process that has to be continued throughout our
lives. The presence of the Spirit at the baptism of
Jesus reminds us that through its infused presence,
the Spirit makes our dying and rising a graced
process.
I hope all of you enjoyed the Christmas celebrations
with your families and loved ones. I wish and pray
that you may have the spirit of Christmas for the New
Year.
Once again as I reflect the previous year at our
parish, I am touched by the generosity and abiding
support so many of you provided. I am so grateful to
all those who made the Christmas Season a joyful
experience by generously giving your time and
talents. Special thanks to different music groups,
Church decoration groups, slide presentation team,
Liturgical ministry volunteers, Maureen Wainwright,
the students from St. Thomas More School and the
teachers who helped with the Christmas pageant and
many others. Thanks to all who have shown your
appreciation through your gifts, cards and prayers to
me.
Let us remember to keep Our Lord in our hearts as
we journey through the New Year 2015.
May God bless you all!
