Obituaries
RONALD BYERS SR.
Ronald Martin Byers Sr.,
passed away on Sunday,
Dec. 28, 2014, at his home
in Las Palomas.
Mr. Byers is survived by his
four children, Ronald Byers
Jr., Terry Byers, SunDee
Huffman, and Dustin Byers;
13 grandchildren; and eight
great-grandchildren.
Mr. Byers was born on Aug.
19, 1943, in Morenci, Ariz.,
to Benny and Betty Byers.
Mr. Byers was a lifelong
resident and a Hot Springs
High School graduate. Mr.
Byers worked and owned
his own business for many
years as an extremely
talented auto body man.
He was well known and
well liked around the
community. Mr. Byers
deeply enjoyed going to the
mountains and helping with
hunting guides. He enjoyed
fishing, camping, watching
western movies, the Dallas
cowboys, and the news.
He loved being around his

Mr. Byers is preceded
in death by his father and
mother; sister, Jeannie
Pestak; two sons, Timothy
Byers and Stacey Byers;
and two grandchildren,
Rhonda Shay Byers, and
Alora Rayanne Byers.
Mr. Byers was a very
caring and loving son,
father, grandfather, uncle,
and friend. He will be
greatly missed.

GERALDINE GRIBBLE
Geraldine Marie Gribble,
“Jeri,” fell asleep in death
Dec. 30, 2014.
She was born May 7, 1925,
in Limon, Okla., to William
and Ora Cody Ross.
Raised around Vaughn
and Encino, she graduated
from Albuquerque High
School. She married John
F. Gribble on Oct. 1, 1942.
They raised four children in
Albuquerque and retired to
Truth or Consequences in
1989. Jeri’s favorite passtime was genealogy and
she was a member of the
Genealogical Society. She
enjoyed meals at the Senior
Meal Site before moving to
Sierra Health Care Center in
2012. She was a member of
First Baptist Church.
She is survived by children,
Larry Gribble (Dixie) of
Albuquerque and Joyce
Brockman (Bobby) of Truth
or Consequences; daughterin-law,
Julie
Gribble;
grandchildren,
Laurie
Smothermon (Gary), Don
Gribble (Kristy), Vickie
Humphrey (Ted), Stephanie
Montessi (James), Shellie
Taylor, Sherrie Poyer and
Christy Peralta (Monico);
nine great-grandchildren;
and nieces and nephews.

WILSON
Evelyn
‘Evie’
Marie
(Gleich) Wilson, 82, of
Truth or Consequences,
passed away Dec. 14, 2014,
in Truth or Consequences.
Evelyn was born on Easter
Monday, March 28, 1932,
in Dodge, N.D., to Frank
and Rose (Zentner) Gleich.
In 1936, Evelyn and her
parents moved from Dodge
to Beulah, where Frank
owned and operated the
Texaco service station.
Evelyn grew up in Beulah
and graduated from Beulah
High School in 1950. After
graduating, she worked
as a clerk in a grocery
store in Beulah. Evelyn
also taught a term of rural
school south of Beulah,
then moved to Bismarck
and worked as a clerk in a
grocery store. In February
1959, she married Raymond
P. Wilson. They had two
children, JoAnn Lee and
Kathleen Rae. After moving
the family to Bismarck
from the farm where they
had been living, Evelyn
started working for the
Motor Vehicle Department
of North Dakota, where she
worked for over 20 years.
Ray suffered some heart
attacks and was forced to
retire in 1993. Evelyn and
Ray had to decide what
they were going to do now
that they were retired.
Since the North Dakota
weather wasn’t working out
so well for either of them
anymore, they decided to

Poor Richard’s Preachings
Voice in the Wilderness

First, I feel sorry for those
who do not believe in a
personal God. Second, yes
there is a God. If you don’t
believe me, go look at my
wife, Wendy Miller. She is
living proof of the miracles
of God.
On Aug. 25, she had a
valve replacement in her
heart. Seven days later, she
tore her aorta. Now, the
doctors I have spoken with
say the life expectancy of a
tear like that is less than 20
minutes. She is living today
as a testimony of God’s
grace and power.
Ok, Ric, how does that
prove there is a God? Good
question, and one that
has been asked. Random
selection would require her
to die. By the standards of
man, why take the effort to
improve the situation of man,
when there is no chance for
improvement? God makes
the determination of our
lifespan, and no one else
had better take on that task.
Tell me, has anyone else
ever had to say to their life
start using the motor home
and became snowbirds.
They eventually settled in
Truth or Consequences.
Evelyn had a love for her
whole family and everyone
in it. She loved spending
time with her daughter,
helping her can. She also
loved to spend time with her
grandchildren. Throughout
her life, Evelyn was a very
strong, and true friend. She
was a very loving person
who never had a harsh word
for anyone, and you very
rarely saw her upset. During
the time Evelyn was living
in Truth or Consequences,
she loved doing volunteer
work and was a member
of the Sierra Vista Hospital
Auxiliary, where she worked
for the gift shop and coffee
shop. She loved baking for
the coffee shop. She loved
her work very much.
Evelyn is survived by her
daughter and son-in-law,
Kathleen Wilson and Brian
Kraft; grandson, Joseph
Wilson;
granddaughter,
Holly Wilson, all of
Mandan, N.D.; sister and
brother-in-law, Shirley and
Ray Hipfner of Beulah,
N.D.; and many, many
friends.
She was preceded in death
by her parents, Frank and
Rose (Zentner) Gleich
of Beulah; an infant son
Michael Fetch; an infant
daughter,
JoAnn
Lee
Wilson; and many aunts,
uncles, and cousins.
A memorial service will be
held on Wednesday, Jan. 14,
2015, at 5 p.m., at the Sierra
Church of Christ located at
901 Hillcrest Circle in Truth
or Consequences.

mate, “It is ok, you can let
go now. I don’t want you to
leave me, but you are free to
wander into Jesus’ arms and
be loved and protected.”
It is at the finality of life
the proof comes through. I
knew that Wendy was cared
for by the Creator of the
Universe. My prayer was,
and still is, Jesus, I can do
this only if you are there to
pull me through it. I do not
want to face the pain, the
loneliness by myself.
I am speaking of a greater
pain than any person can
help with. I am speaking of
those moments when you
wake up, and realize the
person you have laid with
for over 40 years won’t be
there to wish you the best
morning. I am speaking of
not having that person who
can be with you to chase the
fears of the day away.
I am eternally grateful
for my wife, who is God’s
gift to me, and the proof of
God’s love toward me.
More than that, I am
grateful for a God who is
there picking me up, giving
me a second chance. Holding
me during the tears.
I have done many funerals.
The ones I have difficulty
doing are those who have no
hope for the future. I speak
not of the person who lies in
the casket. I speak of those
who are left behind, now
having to experience what I
mentioned earlier, and have
no one there to help them.
There was a letter written
many years ago to the New
York Times, I believe. The
letter asked if there was a
Santa Claus. The answer
was: Yes, Virginia, there is
a Santa Claus.
Well reader, I can say
without a doubt: Yes,
skeptic, there is a Jesus. Yes,
non-believer, there is a God.
Yes, agnostic, God does
live and reign. Yes, atheist,
there is a God who loves
you also.

house have been found and
it looks like in a couple of
weeks we might be ready to
fire up. Eighteen to 20 weeks
is a long time without water,
regardless of the season.
Avid golfers, mark your

Jan. 13, when the Truth

Consequences
City
Commission meets.
The golf course will be
on the meeting agenda for
discussion of future plans
for irrigation, machinery
upgrades, possible clubhouse
plans and open discussions
from the public. Come out
to the meeting. The course
needs your support!
Pointer of the week: this is a
good time of year to continue
with your mental game. Idle
time at home should allow for
some thought on your swing
setup. Check your grip, aim
the clubface, assume your
proper stance and swing the
club through the ball. Mental
setup is so vital to your final
results. Give it a try. It doesn’t
take that long.

Law enforcement and
our judicial system have
been taking a big hit in the
national media.
The
Sierra
County
Ministerial
Alliance
(SCMA) has been watching
the events unfold, as you
have. We have taken on the
task of showing our local
law enforcement that we do
understand and appreciate
what they do for us. We
understand they must make
difficult decisions that
may not be favorable to
everyone. However, they
are there when we need
them the most.
As a way to say to them,
“We
understand,”
the
SCMA is holding a Pray
for the Police event. We
are inviting the entire
community to join us at
the Sierra County Sheriff’s
Department parking lot. We
will gather near a sign for all
to see. The time will be 11
a.m., Monday, Jan. 26.
Please come help us show
our law enforcement that we
appreciate what they do. The
entire county is invited. We
wish for all law enforcement
officers to please attend.
