Priests for Our Future
Our parish has seen great success and inspiring generosity throughout the Priests for the Future: The Church is
Alive! Campaign, which seeks to raise a minimum of
$30 million to support the recruitment, formation, and
education of the seminarians in our diocese. Our efforts
to support this historic endeavor
are wrapping up in the wake of the
New Year and the response has
been simply overwhelming.
Thanks to the 149 generous families that opened their
hearts and gave in support of our future priests, we
raised $412,086. That is 139.69% of our $295,000
target!
Because we exceeded this target, we will receive a parish rebate through the over-goal sharing formula within
the next several years. The rebate will be used to
strengthen our parish endowment fund.
The Holy Spirit bestowed a great blessing upon us as we
have 33 men pursuing the priesthood. As we near the
end of the campaign, we invite every family to prayerfully consider a pledge in support of this campaign. All
parish families benefit from this campaign by ensuring
that good, well-formed priests are available to minister
to our parish in the future.
Thank you again for helping support this campaign with
your pledged gifts and prayers.

Christ the King the Weekend
of January 31/February 1
► Super Bowl Pancake Breakfast
Plan to attend the All-You-Can-Eat Pancake and Sausage Breakfast on Sunday, February 1, from 8:00 a.m.
to noon.
The cost is $5.00 for adults, $250 for
children ages 5-12, and free for children under the age of 5.
This event is sponsored by The Christ
the King Men’s Club.
The net proceeds will be donated to McFarland St. Vincent de Paul Conference, Luke House and Port St. Vincent.
► Christ the King Ladies Guild Bake Sale
The Ladies Guild will hold a Bake Sale after all Masses
the weekend of January 31/February 1.
The proceeds will go to the Water for Life
Program, which supplies tanks for clean
drinking water in third world countries.
Show your support by baking and/or buying some delicious treats!
► “Soup-er Bowl” Collection
Christ the King St. Vincent Conference members will
collect soup for the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry the
weekends of January 24/25 and January 31/February 1.
Help us make this a success by donating
soup - large and small cans, ramen noodles,
cup-of-soup, and broth.
Collection boxes will be in the entrance to
the church and in the parish hall under the
St. Vincent de Paul bulletin board.

Youth Choir News
The CTK Youth Choir
will rehearse
in the Youth Room

This choir will sing at the 5:00 Mass

As I write this I hope that our ordeal has ended. During the week prior to Labor Day, a nearby
strike of lightning took out our electronic systems.
Most were quickly repaired except for our sign.
We telephoned and visited the company that
built the sign and never had a response. This went on
literally for months.
We cannot purchase from any sign company
because of our software. Finance council member
and building and grounds committee member Rob
Chudada found another supplier in SE Wisconsin that
responded not only with interest but also a possible
fix and without replacing the entire mechanism. We
are fully covered by insurance. Christmas time
slowed progress but, I hope, that when you read this,
we will have made some genuine progress.
I know I have written and spoken about this
in the past. The Jesuits had an expression, which in
Latin read: repetitio est mater studiorum (repetition is
the mother of studies). So, I will repeat. I know you
will find priests who do not follow the rules of the
church. I attended Mass at a church in Texas where
the announcements were over 20 minutes. Every parishioner with a program stood up and promoted it. I
receive requests all the time from groups who want to
come “and speak at the Masses.” This is not a part of
the Church’s liturgy.
Here is what is written in the General Instruction of the Roman Missal # 90: “Brief announcements, if they are necessary.” This instruction also
comes in the Roman Missal # 140. In short, the Mass
is not a time that we advertise events.
We have one of the best parish bulletins that I
have ever seen published. If folks are away you may
always read it posted on our parish website
www.myparish.com. We try to publish everything
in the bulletin that is sent to us as space permits.
My take on “brief” and “necessary” is when
something immediately follows Mass. Nobody has
yet been able to read the bulletin. Generally I also
include the brief announcement for a funeral because
not everyone reads the obits in the paper. And a few
years ago I agreed to add a brief announcement about
socials when they follow all weekend Masses. Newcomers often are not aware of our socials.

Spaghetti Dinner at Immaculate
Heart of Mary
You are invited to the Immaculate Heart of Mary
School Spaghetti Dinner on Saturday, January 24.
Serving times are from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m. in Marian
Hall in the school. The dinner is served by
Lombardino's Restaurant and features all-you
-can-eat spaghetti with marinara or bolognese
sauce, salad, bread and berry panna cotta for
dessert.
The cost for dinner is $11 for adults, $10 for seniors,
$5 for children ages 2-12. A cash bar is also available.
All proceeds go to support Immaculate Heart of Mary
Home & School Association.

Protecting God’s Children Session
Knowledge and awareness are the best weapons to fight
sexual predators of children. A Protecting God’s Children Session will be in the St. Nicholas Room on the lower level
of the parish center on Thursday,
January 29, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Individuals 18 years of age and older must complete the
PGC session to volunteer in areas such as Confirmation
activities, Religious Education classes, and Kids of Faith
events. Contact Maureen Nelson if you will attend or
need more information.

died on December 25.
The funeral was on December 31.

23rd Annual Recycle the Warmth
Blanket Drive
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul will
conduct the Madison area’s 23rd Annual
Recycle the Warmth Blanket Drive, and
our parish will take part. Committed to
helping our neighbors in need, St. Vincent
de Paul offers aid without regard to religion, race or ethnic background.
The annual drive allows St. Vincent de Paul to provide
blankets, sheets and other bedding without charge to
Dane County people in need during the year. We need
your help to recycle the warmth and make this assistance
possible. The blanket drive will be Friday through Sunday, January 23-25.
One way to participate in the drive is to donate new or
gently used blankets and bedding at any of the 3 Shopko
stores in the Madison area. Shopko makes a goodquality blanket available for the drive at an attractive sale
price.
Also, our parish will set up a collection bin in the parish
hall on the weekend of January 24/25. Your generosity
is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for helping
our neighbors in need through this year’s Recycle the
Warmth Blanket Drive.
