Christiansen, MD, FACP Board Certified in Medical Oncology Neal P. Christiansen, MD, FACP Dr. Neal P. Christiansen is a member of Northwestern Medical Group serving as a Health Service Clinician in Hematology and Oncology at Lake Forest Hospital and at Grayslake Cancer Center since August 2014. Dr. Christiansen was previously an Associate Professor and Fellowship Program Director at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston from 2009-2014. Dr. Christiansen earned his MD at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Michael Reese Hospital and Clinic in Chicago, followed by fellowship in Medical Oncology at the University of Minnesota. He is board certified in medical oncology and internal medicine. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, the American Association for Cancer Research, and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. He has been active in state oncology societies, having served as a member of the South Carolina Oncology Society board from 2004-2014 including two years as President 2010-2011. Dr. Christiansen has also served as Medical Chief of Staff at Palmetto Health Richland Memorial in Columbia, South Carolina. Dr. Christiansen has been active in academic medicine with faculty positions at the University of Minnesota, University of Tennessee – Memphis, Roswell Park Cancer Institute and the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia. He was also in private practice from 1999-2009 with South Carolina Oncology Associates, P.A. in Columbia. His interests and research through his career have included stem cell transplantation, immunotherapy, leukemia, myeloma and solid tumor oncology including breast, lung and pancreas, as well as health disparity. Postgraduate education and patient education have also been major foci for Dr. Christiansen.
