Calling all current and future stars! Rideau Park children and youth (grade 1 to age 18) are invited to participate in a very special musical – “Aladdin Jr”! Under the direction of Ian Bevell (music) and Andrea Laliberté (production), we will be bringing this fantastical story to life in two performances on Saturday, May 9. We need lots of performers for singing/acting roles and we need a full back stage crew too! Everyone wishing to participate will be included. Those wishing solo singing/acting roles are asked to come to an audition on Sunday, January 25 (from 3:00-5:00 p.m.). For an information package, for audition requirements, to schedule your 10 minute audition, to sign-up for the chorus (no audition required), to sign up to be on the stage crew or to volunteer your time, please contact Andrea. Meditative Service: On January 18 at 3:00 p.m. All are invited to attend “a gentle service of communion, scripture, prayer, song , silence and sharing.” An opportunity to join with others to reflect on God’s word to you and God’s presence in your life. Building Bridges: Reflecting on the United Church's Report on Israel/Palestine with: Prof. John Dominic Crossan, Rabbi Michael Satz , Rev. Barb White, The Hon. Rev. Rob Oliphant and Bishop John Spong. You are invited to participate in a United in Learning webcast on Israel/ Palestine on Tuesday, January 20 from 9a.m. to 5:00 p.m. We will be projecting the presentation in our Parlour. Watching in a group will provide opportunity for conversation and group reflection. Come for the whole day or any part of it. Winter Dinner: After a brisk winter day, please come and warm up with a delicious dinner of roast pork and scalloped potatoes followed by lemon meringue pie, on Friday, January 30, starting at 5:00 p.m., with a second sitting at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome. Adults: $18.00, Children 6-12 years: $10.00, Children 5 years and under: eat free. Rideau Park Wi-Fi Service: We are making changes to the Wi-Fi service starting on Monday, January 12. All users will need to log in to their devices again after the change. Our apologies for any inconvenience. Harmony Club for Seniors (60+) will hold its first monthly meeting for 2015 Wednesday, January 28. From 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., when lunch will be served by volunteers, (cost is $6.00) there is time for meeting others for conversation. For anyone who is not yet a member to join us for lunch, registration is required by January 21. From 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., there will be a presentation on the work of the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society. Worshiplude: On the weekend of January 30-February 1, Rideau Park will host a group of 112 United Church youth and leaders from London Conference. They will be staying in our church that weekend, on Friday and Saturday night, enjoying Winterlude on Saturday, attending a regional youth service at Dominion Chalmers United on Saturday evening, and attending our 9:30am service on Sunday morning. We will be providing breakfast for our guests on Saturday and Sunday morning. We are looking for a few helpers to help make our guests welcome. If you could offer to help with hosting breakfast on either morning of Worshiplude weekend please speak to Steve. Rideau Park Book Club – Sunday, February 1, 10:45 a.m. – Everybody is welcome to come and join us after the first service. The upcoming book is Heaven is for Real, by Todd Burpo. It was also made into a movie in 2014, so you might be able to get it on DVD. If you’ve already read it, you might also be interested in To Heaven and Back, by Mary C. Neal or Proof of Heaven by Eben Alexander. Cross Stitching: Please be advised that the Cross Stitching group is beginning again on Monday, February 2 at 9:30 a.m. in the Parlour. CONGREGATIONAL MEETING - Sunday February 15th, 2015, 11:15 a.m. : You are invited to join us for the Congregational Meeting in Beecroft Hall at 11:15 am, immediately after the 10 am church service. Coffee, tea, juice and a light lunch will be served. You will be able to hear about and provide your views on the life and work of the congregation. Details to follow. Family Day: Just a heads-up that the office will be CLOSED on this day, February 16, 2015. Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper: will be held on Tuesday, February 17, starting at 5:30 p.m. This supper is being organized as a fund raiser by the Rideau Park Boy Scouts, who will also be doing the cooking. More details regarding ticket sales will be provided at a later date. Please keep in mind worshippers who have limited mobility. Parking in the parking spots beside Cunningham makes it easier for them to come to church, so if you don’t have the need, please use a parking spot on the Beecroft side or in the back parking lot off of Woodcrest.
