Official Housekeeper- PART TIME S1(L) The purpose of the British Embassy (BE) in Tokyo/British Consulate General (BCG) in Osaka is to promote the British Government’s prosperity, security and consular interests in Japan. The Corporate Entertainment Team (CET) provides the excellent quality of service for business hospitality at the Ambassador’s Residence and other compound houses to support all the Embassy sections. The jobholder will act as an effective member of the busy team which provides the integrated hospitality service on compound; supporting to deliver post objectives for the Ambassador, Minster and other Embassy sections. The successful candidate will work with two kitchen staff, five other members of the team responsible for stewarding, housekeeping and event logistics, as well as a CE manager and a part-time Assistant CE Manager. Main Duties: Cleaning of the official guest rooms and public spaces for the Residences for the Ambassador and Minister. Occasional cleaning support for other compound houses is also required Laundry and ironing of official items such as linens and towels used for business functions and for VIP guest rooms who stay at the Residences of the Ambassador and Minister. Occasionally act as a steward/stewardess for business hospitalities and VIP events including set up for meals, calls and receptions hosted by the Ambassador, Minister and other Embassy sections. Administrative work including co-ordinating attending meetings, managing working hours, appraisal and own performance development plan. Contribute to delivery of a specific aspect of the Japan network’s crisis preparedness/response and corporate activities. Participate in relevant trainings to develop understanding. Requirements Providing services for a variety of functions, the role demands a flexible attitude. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following key skills/experience: Professional cleaning and ironing skills Good command of Japanese (Level N3-4 above) and English ability (TOEIC 500 points or more/Eiken 2 above/IELTS Band 6+). Strong interests in British culture The enthusiasm to learn and develop the skill is important. The following skills/experience would be advantage but not essential: Experience of working as a housekeeper/steward/stewardess in the household of a senior members of the diplomatic community or similar. Flower arrangement skills Basic IT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook as well as administration skills The successful candidates must be able to demonstrate the following competencies at interview: Competence 1: Changing and Improving Review work practices with other members of team to come up with ideas to improve the way things are done. The CET work an annualised hours system as flexible working is required including early morning, evenings and occasional weekend work. This means working hours are recorded across one year and time off in lieu is taken during quieter periods in order to balance the hours worked with the contracted hours. The job is being offered on a 1 year contract, subject to annual review.
