The Perks of Being
a Social Senior
Did you know that
having a variety
of positive social
interactions not
only increases your
emotional wellbeing,
but can also contribute
to your physical
wellness? That’s because
social interaction can
boost self-esteem, which
gives you a more positive
outlook on life. Doctors
have found that people
who have a positive outlook
on life tend to fight diseases
better than people who don’t.
The bottom line? Meaningful
interactions with others enhance
your quality of life (and maybe
even add years to it), making
you feel better and giving you
a reason to rise and shine each
day. Take advantage “of these
many opportunities to enjoy
the company of others.

Being Social in
Your Community
There’s nothing more enjoyable
than meeting new people.
Find those in your community
with whom you share a special
interest, and get social!
Join a Community Group –
Quilting circles, book clubs,
fishing trips etc. Look for
opportunities and more in your
community to make new and
lasting connections.
Volunteer – You have so many
skills to offer. What better way
to use them than to contribute
to a charity of your choice?
You can find all kinds of
organizations to support either
online or in your community.
Do you have a green thumb?
Help plan a community garden.
Do you have the fastest needles
in east? Grab some friends and
knit hats for cancer patients.
There’s so much you can
accomplish when you work
together as a community.
Social Gatherings on Campus
We offer many opportunities
for you to mix and mingle on
campus. Here are a few activities
to look for when you want to
make campus connections.
Happy Hour – Gather with
friends, family members and
staff every Friday afternoon
to enjoy great snacks and even
better company.

Sunday Brunch
In December, Sunday Brunch was a
huge holiday meal for the Heritage.
Many family members joined us. We
enjoyed a visit from Santa and Mrs.
Claus. They handed out candy treats and
took pictures with residents and their
visitors. We had piano players playing
Christmas Tunes while everyone feasted
on all of their favorite holiday foods.
Craft tables were set up and children
had fun making hand print santas and
reindeer cocoa bags. Thank you to all!

• If you see a squirrel on
Valentine’s Day, you will
marry a cheapskate who
will hoard all your money.
• If you see a goldfinch on
Valentine’s Day, you will

Valentine’s Day, you will

for you and/or your loved one. We
appreciate the opportunity to serve!

Smiles of the Month
This month came from our New Year’s Eve celebrations. Residents donned beads and
hats. Many of the ladies thought it was the perfect time to wear a tiara. We brought
in the new year with food, lots of noise makers, and were surrounded by our Heritage
friends and family. We took the time to reflect on the highlights of 2014 and we all
look forward to the new and exciting activities and events in store for us in 2015.
