Coordinator, Arctic Funders Collaborative Permanent, Part-Time (3 Days a Week) Position Overview The Arctic Funders Collaborative (AFC), a Project of Tides Canada Initiatives Society first established as the Arctic Funders Group in 2007, promotes informed and effective grantmaking to support healthy Arctic communities and ecosystems. AFC members, primarily philanthropic foundations based in North America, work across the circumpolar Arctic to build capacity in areas such as science and traditional knowledge, individual and institutional leadership, sustainable livelihoods, resilient communities, land, water and wildlife conservation, and policy development and advocacy. We seek a qualified and energetic self-starter to help guide the renewal, development, and strategic direction of the AFC, together with its Steering Committee and members. Beyond supporting our mission, goals and objectives, the Coordinator will implement and maintain the operating, financial and administrative systems, policies and procedures that support our work. The Coordinator interacts with AFC’s members, and supports their collective activities via electronic and in-person networking, shared learning and orientation to the Arctic, and the alignment, attraction and leveraging of Arctic philanthropic funding. This position is mainly administrative, but requires strong communication skills and understanding of northern people and places. Anticipated Start Date: Early Spring 2015 Location: The Coordinator will be located in Canada, with strong preference to those who reside in the Canadian North. Salary: Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Our benefits include generous vacation and personal time and a good benefits plan. Key Responsibility Areas The AFC Coordinator, under the direction of the AFC Steering Committee, is responsible for the following duties: Building the Collaborative · Lead regular, user-tailored communications and interactions among existing and prospective AFC members · Convene the AFC membership and committees · Identify intersecting issues and potential strategic alignment among members · Facilitate collective approaches, aligned activities, cross-sectoral research and collaborative initiatives · Develop and implement multi-year strategic, financial and operational plans · Assist in developing financial goals and implementing sustainable funding strategies Communications · Develop and implement a communications strategy including website and social media if appropriate Management and Administration · Project management towards the AFC’s long-term mission and short-term goals · Day-to-day operations and program delivery; liaise with TCI support team to ensure effective operations · Prepare and deliver regular activity reports · Prepare grant proposals, reports, and budgets · Ensure compliance with all grant agreements supporting AFC’s activities · Contract and supervise the work of employees and contractors, as necessary to support AFC’s activities · Event and trip logistics Financial Administration · Ensure the financial health of the AFC · Prepare, monitor and report according to an annual budget · Process invoices and expense reports Qualifications Required · General understanding of Arctic geographic, ecological, and human diversity, together with knowledge of the range of social and environmental issues relevant to the Arctic · Experience working and living in northern or Aboriginal communities, or at a minimum, demonstrated commitment to and sensitivity toward uniquely northern conditions and cultures · At least 5 years’ experience in administration, office management, budget and financial management, and reporting · Experience with successful grant writing and fundraising activities, either as a grant-seeker or a funder · Highly computer literate with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and comfortable with on-line platforms · Familiarity with contract administration, oversight, and monitoring performance against terms · Willingness and ability to travel as necessary · Solid writing and communication abilities · Strong organizational skills; ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment · Able to work both collaboratively and independently; demonstrated flexibility and initiative How to Apply Together with your resume, please forward a cover letter which includes your responses to the following questions: 1.
