organized athletic programs. They annually contribute financially to support the ongoing viability of the
programs as well as in kind contributions for special events. They are members of the Dieterich
Sportsbackers and Tom Wright has served as founding President of the organization as well as serving in
the same capacity several years later. When there is a need in the athletic programs, Wright’s Furniture
has always stepped up and offered whatever assistance they could provide. They take great pride in
being a strong supporter of Maroon Nation.

TEAMS:
1965 Boys’ Basketball Team
In 1964-65 Dieterich basketball team finished the season with a 20-7 record. They were led by Richard
Thomas on the outside and Bill Steppe on the inside. The team won the first District title in the school’s
history. Dieterich was defeated by Lawrenceville in the championship game of the regional. The Fighting
Maroons captured 2nd in the Midland Trail Conference.

1971 Boys’ Basketball Team
The 1970-71 Dieterich basketball team finished the season with a 16-9 record that was capped off by
winning the 2nd District title in school’s history beating Allendale, Palestine, and Hutsonville. Among
their other achievements was finishing 3rd at the Clay City Holiday Tournament.

1974 Boys’ Basketball Team
The 1974 Dieterich basketball team is considered by some the best basketball team in school history.
The 1973-74 season was nothing short of spectacular with 25 wins against 1 loss. That year Dieterich
was the last undefeated team in the state when they suffered their season-ending loss to arch-rival TTown in the District Championship. Undefeated Midland Trail Conference Champion and Vandalia
Holiday Tournament Champions.
