Lay Reader
O God, You light up men’s hearts when they truly hear
with the whole being. Help us to search You out, O
God. Speak in meanings, impressions & compulsions.
Help us to listen that through the music, readings,
prayers, spoken words & the beauty of this place &
other persons, we may hear. Help us to be still & know
that you are God. May we hear You. In Christ, Amen.

THE LIFE OF MOSES
Release of the Captives
February 15, 2015
Exodus 11-12:42
“Now the LORD had said to Moses, ‘I will bring one more
plague on Pharaoh and on Egypt. After that, he will let you
go from here, and when he does, he will drive you out
completely. Tell the people that men and women alike are to
ask their neighbors for articles of silver and gold.’”
Exodus 11:1-2
“On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike
down every firstborn of both people and animals, and I will
bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD. The
blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are,
and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No
destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt. This is
a day you are to commemorate; for the generations to come
you shall celebrate it as a festival to the LORD—a lasting
ordinance.” Exodus 12:12-14
Festival of Passover
And what happened?
“At midnight the LORD struck down all the firstborn in Egypt,
from the firstborn of Pharaoh, who sat on the throne, to the
firstborn of the prisoner, who was in the dungeon, and the
firstborn of all the livestock as well. Pharaoh and all his
officials and all the Egyptians got up during the night, and
there was loud wailing in Egypt, for there was not a house
without someone dead.” Exodus 12:29-30
“During the night Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and
said, “Up! Leave my people, you and the Israelites! Go,
worship the LORD as you have requested. Take your flocks
and herds, as you have said, and go. And also bless me.”
Verse 31-32
APPLICATION
How does this affect my life today?
“For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.”
I Corinthians 5:7
“It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats
to take away sins.” Hebrews 10:4
“He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves;
but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own
blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption.” Hebrew 9:12
A Blood Covering
“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have
fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his
Son, purifies us from all sin.” I John 1:7
“He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves;
but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own
blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption.” Hebrews 9:12
“For you know that it was not with perishable things such as
silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of
life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the
precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”
I Peter 1:18-19
“This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for
many for the forgiveness of sins.” Matthew 26:28
“In Christ we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”
Colossians 1:14
“And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take
the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and
with your blood you purchased for God persons from
every tribe and language and people and nation.”
Revelation 5:9
“Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we
shall be saved from wrath through him.” Romans 5:9
“God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement,
through the shedding of his blood—to be received by
faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because
in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand
unpunished—“ Romans 3:25
“Behold the Lamb of God
who takes away the sin of the world!” John 1:29
Are you covered by the blood of Jesus?
FOR FUTHER THOUGHT
READ Exodus 11
How is this plague different from the others?
Why do you think that Pharaoh disregards Moses’ warning?
Why do you think people disregard God’s warnings today?
READ Exodus 12:1-30
What is the connection between blood and death in this
passage?
Why is blood a good choice as a protection against death?
God surely could have accomplished the Exodus without the
death of all the firstborn of Egypt. So why do you think he
chose to do it this way?
In what sense was this a “judgment on all the god’s of Egypt”
(12:12)?
What influence was the Passover event intended to have on
the Pharaoh? On the Egyptians? On the Hebrews? On
future Israelites?
What does the Jewish feast have in common with its
Christian counterpart, Holy Communion?
How does this passage help you see the purpose of Jesus’
death and shed blood?
How do you remember “the lamb that was slain”? vs 21;
Revelation 5:21
How important are traditions?

The Thirteen Apostles –
Twelve Ordinary Men
Beginning
Wednesday, February 11
7 PM in the Parlor
Pastor Jill Magnuson is offering this study
Open to everyone.
Please join us on Wednesdays.
Contrary to popular belief, we do not have to be
perfect to do God's work. Look no further than the twelve disciples
whose many weaknesses are forever preserved throughout the pages of
the New Testament. Jesus chose ordinary men - fisherman, tax
collectors, political zealots - and turned their weakness into strength,
producing greatness from utter uselessness. Join John MacArthur as he
draws principles from Christ's careful, hands-on training of the original
twelve disciples for today's modern disciple - you!
A Fragile Stone:
Peter, Jesus’ Friend
Beginning: Tuesday, February 17, 2015
6 PM in the church parlor
Everyone is invited.
As much as we enjoy our relationship with Jesus
Christ, imagine what it would have been like to take
that a step further and be His friend when He was
here on earth! The apostle Peter had that special
opportunity.
Michael Card traveled to Israel to walk us through the
friendship between our Savior and the man Jesus renamed The Rock.
In this special video presentation based study, you’ll travel with Michael
as he visits the places where Jesus and Peter interacted. You’ll listen as
Card reveals the intricacies of their friendship. And then you’ll have the
opportunity to discuss what you observed in order to make the teaching
of Michael’s lessons applicable to your own life.
