Let me begin by congratulating you on being selected to be a volunteer in the Emergency Room. It is one of the most sought-after and exciting departments in the program. In the ER you will be working closely with physicians, nurses, and emergency room technicians. Doctors from all different fields make an appearance in the ER, so you will be exposed to many different disciplines. I encourage everyone to be proactive and take advantage of this fact. The ER is an extremely fast-paced unit, and there is always something to see. Do not be afraid to ask staff questions and to be to shadow them. In being proactive and seeking out work, you will constantly find yourself experiencing new and exciting things in the ER. There is always something new to experience and learn. I hope you enjoy this department as much as I do. I am always here if you have any questions, concerns, etc. Again, welcome to the best department in the program! Tips on Success: • • • Be proactive! Remember; you’re there to help AND get clinical experience! Ask what not the hospital can do for you, but what you can do for the hospital! Get to know the Care Partners, Nurses, AND Doctors, the entire hospital staff!
