With March upon us, the daffodils out and the Vernal Equinox and
spring just a few weeks away, our thoughts inevitably turn to the
forthcoming camping season. And what a season it promises to be!
Our Rally Organisers have been busy again and it looks like we're in
for another couple of great rallies, further details of which can be
found on page 5 and on the web site. So time to start checking out
the camping kit. Can't wait for it to all kick off!!!

Reminder - Attestation Certificate
If you haven't already done so, now is the time to renew your
“Attestation Certificate” at Social Security.
For anybody who is new to travel in France, this document, issued
free by Social Security, is used to certify that you are entitled to
hospitalisation and medical treatment on the same terms as any other
French citizen under the reciprocal health agreement between France
and Jersey. It needs annual revalidation by Social Security.
Under the agreement, if you are hospitalised you will have to pay
20% of the cost. If you visit a doctor or dentist or need an ambulance
you will still be required to pay the full amount.
It is not required for emergency treatment, only if you have to stay in
hospital overnight.

Film Evening
Wednesday 14th January, at Trinity Parish Hall, saw John Williams perform his magic again to provide
another excellent, entertaining, film evening. It seems the older John gets, the better he gets, and may it
continue for many years to come and, by the way, congratulations on reaching 80 John!
The evening started with a short (and hilarious) film about animal funnies before moving on to films covering
the Summer BBQ, the Annual Dinner/Dance, AGM and the 2014 Main Rally. These were interspersed with a
number of short films, ranging in length from a minute upwards, which alternately instilled laughter,
amazement or fear. One consisted of a number of road accidents filmed from dashboard mounted cameras.
Talk about hairy? Most of the time, those involved walked away unscathed, though just how they did it
sometimes I don't know. The film certainly had the audience oohing and aahhing on several occasions.
About 60 members attended and thanks must go to Richard Lennard and Roy Le Plongeon who provided
some of the footage and still images of the Club events and also to Roy for helping to set the whole thing up.
Well done, a great show. Thanks also to the committee members who provided the half time refreshments.
And here is the (politically dubious) news
In a statement today, Wythenshawe Police say riots last month, caused over a million pounds worth of
improvements.
A leading repertory company say they've had to cancel the panto 'Jack & the Beanstalk' in Birmingham,
Bristol, Oldham, Bradford, Burnley, and Leicester. Apparently the giant couldn't smell any Englishmen.
Yesterday evening, Police in Liverpool, got wind of a plot by AQIB (Al Qaeda in Britain), that it was going to
kill anyone who is English. Police fear the death toll could be as high as 1.
Earlier today, two men, reported to be Muslims, crashed a speedboat into the Thames Barrier in London.
Police think it might be the start of Ram-a-dam.
And finally
A man on a Manchester bound train raised the alarm when he saw the Indian lady opposite him, appear to
collapse and stop breathing. Later however, a sharp eyed paramedic, noticed the red mark in the middle of
her forehead and realised immediately that she had not died but merely gone in to standby.

50th Anniversary Lunch
February 10th 2015 marked a very special date in the history of our Club; our 50 th anniversary. To mark this
historic event, a celebration luncheon was held at the Somerville Hotel and attended by no fewer than 85
members and guests. The Club just took the place over. I met a couple in the bar who thought they were
going to have a nice quiet lunch. Then we all turned up!
After a pre-lunch drink, we all took
our seats at the gaily decorated
tables (thanks to Julia and Anne for
that and the seating plan). Our
president welcomed us all and then
we got down to the serious side of
the event – the food! And what a
superb meal it was. The hotel really
did us proud. After coffee, Glenda
gave a short history of the Club and
then, as our glasses were charged
with some bubbly and founder
member Pat Maindonald had cut the
specially commissioned cake, invited
Kath Marshall, from the Guernsey
Club, to make the toast.
Following the toast, a
special presentation was
made to Richard Lennard of
a certificate and honorary
life membership for him and
wife Lilian, for all the work
he has done over the years
including making up the
welcome boards at our
rallies and more recently
the board for this luncheon.
Sadly,
not
all
past
presidents were able to
attend but of the 17 past
presidents we have had
over the past 50 years, we had 8 which isn't at all bad.
After the presentation, we all moved to the Harbour
Room where John Williams showed us his film making
magic yet again, with a series of snapshots of club
activities over the last 50 years. Some remarkable
vintage film showed some very much younger (and in
some cases, dare I say, slimmer) members doing their
thing and generally enjoying themselves. Well done
John. Another Best Film Oscar I think!
And finally a huge vote of thanks to all those who
helped to make this event the success it was, not
forgetting the hotel staff and all who attended.

Club Breakfast at St. Helier Yacht Club
A breakfast has been organised at St. Helier Yacht Club on Sunday 1st March at 09:30. You don't have to be
a Yacht Club member to attend. There is no set menu and each person can order what they want and pay
separately. This could be anything from a poached egg to a full English and varies in price from about £3.50
to £6.50. It is a family friendly event and will give members another opportunity to do what they do so well –

Bowling Evening
Following on from the previous very successful bowling evenings, Collette Willmett has organised another
one for Wednesday the 18th March. The evening will follow the normal format with members gathering at
Jersey Bowl at 18:45 so that bowling can start at 19:00. After the bowling session, a buffet will be provided.
See menu below and reply slip on page 9.
It promises to be a real fun event and don't worry if you can't bowl – just come for the meal and a chat.
If you want to attend, there is a reply slip on page 9 which should be filled in and returned, with your cheque,
to Collette Willmett at the address on the slip, no later than Friday 6th March please.
N.B. If you are unable to return the reply slip by 6 th March you may not be able to bowl as the bowling
lanes must be booked early, to ensure that those who want to bowl, can all do so, at the same time.

Shakedown and Main Rally Update
Shakedown Rally
As already reported the Shakedown Rally is to be held at Domaine du Logis at La Chapelle aux Fitzméens
near Combourg. Anybody wishing to attend and who has not yet returned a reply slip should do so as soon
as possible and in any case no later than 1st March to ensure a place. The reply slip is reproduced at the
end of this newsletter.
Main Rally
As already reported, the Main Rally is to be held between the 1 st and 6th June at La Garangeoire in the
Vendee. However, since the last newsletter, a full programme of events for the Main Rally has now been
published by the Rally Sub-committee and is as follows:Sunday 31st May

The rally cost is €120 per head, payable at the rally. A deposit of £50 per pitch is required by 18th February
to confirm the booking but is refundable up to 4 weeks before the rally. If you wish to attend the rally, and
have not yet returned the reply slip, deposit cheque and booking form, copies of the reply slip and booking
form are reproduced at the end of this newsletter.
The pitch cost is €16.00 per night payable to the campsite
People wanting statics will need to book directly with the campsite giving full details of size required, arrival
and departure dates. Camp site contact details are on the web site – see the 'News' page.

Prohibition of bicycles on car racks in Portugal
Andrew Averty reports that it is now illegal to transport bicycles on racks mounted on the rear of cars. Campers
and caravans however are OK provided the bikes do not obscure lights, indicators or number plates etc., exceed
the width of the caravan or camper or protrude more that 45cm beyond the rear of the vehicle.

STRANGE VANS
Each issue I'll be looking around the world for weird and wonderful caravans, motor homes and other
camping pictures.
This time it's paint your wagon; a collection of gaily coloured vans with some unusual paint jobs!
These first two are French; the left hand one was spotted on a camp site near Dover.
The next two offer a musical? Theme.
And finally. Well, I'll leave you to make up your own
mind about these two!
Look out for another crop of weird and wonderful vans and motor homes in the next issue.

L'Entente Cordiale?
An Englishman was on a busy train headed to London. The only seat available was directly adjacent to a
well dressed middle aged French woman and the seat was being used by her dog. The Englishman says,
"Madame, please move your dog. I need that seat." The French woman looked down her nose at the
Englishman, sniffed and said, “You English. You're are such a rude class of people. Can't you see my little
FiFi is using that seat?" The Englishman walked away, determined to find another seat, but after a second
trip down to the end of the train, found himself again facing the woman with the dog. Again he asked,
"Please. May I sit there?. I'm very tired." The French woman wrinkled her nose and snorted "You English!
Not only are you rude, you are also arrogant!" The Englishman didn't say anything else, he leaned over,
picked up the dog, tossed it out the window of the train and sat down in the empty seat. The woman shrieked
and demanded that someone defend her honour and chastise the Englishman. An American sitting across
the aisle spoke up indignantly "You know, sir, you English do seem to have a penchant for doing the wrong
thing. You eat holding the fork in the wrong hand. You drive your cars on the wrong side of the road. And
now, Sir, you've thrown the wrong bitch out the window!"
