Program Description
Presenter
The Palliative Care Education Series provides regular
lectures and workshops which discuss common end-oflife issues. During this session, members of the Palliative
Care Program Planning Committee will share some
of their pearls and pet peeves about their work in the
palliative care field.
Dr. Andrew Knight, MD is a general practitioner in oncology at the
Northeast Cancer Centre at Health Sciences North in Sudbury, Ontario. He is
a co-chair of the Palliative Care Program Planning Committee at NOSM. Dr.
Knight is also the Clinical Leader in regional palliative care in LHIN 13.

Dr. Deb Harrold, MD, CCFP is a family physician providing consultative
palliative care in the Huntsville area. For the past eight years, she has been
involved with the Algonquin Family Health Team as lead physician for the
Palliative Care Team, Hope Huntsville Palliative Care Team. She served as
president of the board for Hospice Huntsville from May 2010 to June 2013.
With the development of Algonquin Grace Residential Hospice, Dr. Harrold
has become the Medical Director for Hospice.
Dr. Sharon Buehner, MD, CCFP is a palliative care physician in Sault Ste.
Marie, Medical Advisor of Algoma Residential Community Hospice and a
member of NOSM Palliative Care Program Planning Committee.
Heather Westaway is Registered Kinesiologist with the College of
Kinesiologists of Ontario and has extensive clinical experience in geriatrics,
chronic disease management, and hospice palliative care. She has worked
closely with Hospice Palliative Care Ontario and the Canadian Hospice
Palliative Care Association to develop and implement initiatives that
advocate for high-quality, patient- and family-centered hospice programs.
Dr. Nathalie Slaney, MD, CCFP is a bilingual physician in Sudbury and is a
resident hospice physician. Dr. Slaney is currently the shared care team lead
physician at the Maison Vale Hospice.
