Immaculate Conception School News Volume 10 Number 22 February 20, 2015 115 North B Street Monmouth, IL 61462 309-‐734-‐6037 Monsignor Thomas Mack Father Timothy Hepner Kathryn Bennett, Principal Website: www.immaculate-‐conception.net School’s Magazine Drive Needs a Boost! Sarah Walters, chair of the magazine drive, has reported that as we near the close of the drive, we are short of our school goal of 400 sold subscriptions. To date we have sold 200 subscriptions. As you know, parents earn Fair Share points for their sales according to the Fair Share agreement signed in August. We need everyone’s help on this fundraiser to make it a success! Please remember that you can go online and order magazines and get credit for Fair Share points. Simply go to www.gaschoolstore.com and click on “Parents & Students” portal. Enter the school ID#867382. Enter the student’s name to receive credit for the “4” Kindle Fire drawings. Send the order confirmation to school. It is that simple! If you prefer we have more order forms available in the school office. In addition, you might consider emailing your friends or talking to them on Facebook about ordering one subscription to help our school reach the goal. Subscriptions may be turned in through Tuesday, February 24. Fundraising is hard work, but it is essential in a Catholic school to help keep tuition costs low. We appreciate your assistance with this endeavor. Thank you in advance for your support. Register for the ICS 3 On 3 Classic Saturday, March 7th The cost per team is $60. Checks are to be made payable to “ICS 3 On 3 Classic.” Entry deadline is Wednesday, March 4. A waiver form signed by an adult is required in order to participate. Entry forms are available in the school office or may be obtained on line at [email protected], on our website, or by calling Kent Thompson at 734-‐6121. Look for contribution information next week from the chairs of this event. I Can, You Can, and We Can – 40 Cans for Lent ICS is kicking off a food drive in conjunction with our Lenten almsgiving and serving others. The drive will run until Monday, March 30. If each family donates one non-‐perishable item each day of Lent (a total of 40 can goods per family) we will have collected 4000 or more items to donate to the Jamieson Center’s food band to serve our local community! Remember to ask friends, families, and neighbors to help. People love to give. Please help us by putting your faith in action and making this Easter a shining example of Christ in all of us! Totus Tuus Dates Set for Summer 2015 For those who aren’t familiar with the program, Totus Tuus summer catechetical program is a week-‐long parish mission for Catholic youth in 1st through 12th grades. It is dedicated to sharing the Gospel and promoting the Catholic faith through evangelization, catechesis, Christian witness, and Eucharistic worship. More details and registration information will be forthcoming in the next month or so. Please mark your calendars and reserve the week, June 29-‐July 3. Call In Parents are reminded to call the school office by 9 a.m. when their child is absent from school. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. We Are on the Mend Many of the faculty and staff (including myself) and student body have been under the weather with upper respiratory infections. Monsignor mentioned how bad we all sounded in Mass last week and gave us a special blessing. Thank you for your concerns and prayers. Stay well! ICS Mid Year Mathletics Improvement Report ICS has received the mid year Mathletics online Math report for all our students using the program. True average student improvement was 24.6 % this year. The average first score at problem solving was 78.% and the average final score was 97.4%. Twenty-‐five certificates were awarded and over 100 students made more than 10% improvement on a particular standards-‐
based activity. The fourth grade student with the highest concepts mastered was Jack Jungmann at 60 concepts. Mattison Gillen was second with 56 and Malia Killey was third with 54. Ava Parkins and Meredith Dulin came in at 52 and 51, respectively. Parents are reminded that students may access the program at home with supervision on any Internet connection. Children have access to their log in identifications and passwords. Research shows that students spending as little as 30 minutes per week on Mathletic curriculum activities (either at school or home) gain a potential advantage of more than 9% on standardized testing. If your child isn’t using Mathletics at home, you might consider doing so! A free student app is available from all major app stores for tablet and mobile devices.
