The Benefits of Water Aerobics
T
he Water Aerobics Wellness Program at Sacred Heart
Rehabilitation Center on Davis Highway in Pensacola is
designed to help individuals maintain physical fitness
and improve quality of life. Water aerobics is a low-impact
exercise, makes exercisers feel lighter, and allows joints to
move more freely because the body does not experience the
same amount of impact as it does on land.
“Even if you find group exercise intimidating, exercising in a
pool allows for some discretion since the moves are performed
underwater, so the only person who knows you missed a step
is you!” says Cathy Watson, Water Aerobics Instructor.
Water may also allow people to exercise longer without
increased joint or muscle pain due to its warmer temperature.
Water-based fitness is ideal for people of all ages with
fibromyalgia, arthritis, lymphedema, mood disorders,
depression, anxiety, back problems, foot or leg problems and
knee injuries, and it’s greatly beneficial for pregnant women.
Benefits of water aerobics include:
mB
uoyancy of water reduces the impact on joints.
mW
ater-based exercise may help improve cardiovascular
health, balance, and overall range of motion.
mP
ools are heated to 90-92 degrees Fahrenheit; higher water
temperature may help soothe pain and aches.
mR
esistance of water-based exercise is much greater than the
resistance of air; this added resistance contributes to muscle
development, which helps to boost metabolism.
Can’t swim? New to exercise?
If you are new to exercise or cannot
swim, don’t worry. Water aerobics classes
are designed with everyone in mind,
including non-swimmers. You don’t even
have to get your hair wet!
The Water Aerobics Wellness program is
located at:
Sacred Heart Rehabilitation Center
4406 N. Davis Hwy.
Pensacola, FL 32503
Cost: $35 per month.
A $5 discount is given to Senior Spirit
members and past patients.
(Insurance plans do not cover the cost.)

Focus on
high-fiber
foods to
protect your
heart
You may already know that
fiber helps with digestion,
but did you know it can
have big benefits for heart
health, too?
Studies have shown that
high-fiber foods help
regulate blood pressure,
lower cholesterol and
provide nutrients that
can lower the risk of heart
disease.
By filling up on whole
grains, vegetables and
fruits, you can get most of
the fiber you need.
mE
at at least five servings
of fruit and vegetables
every day.
mC
hoose whole grains
instead of refined grains
and processed food. A
high-fiber cereal — one
with five or more grams
of fiber per serving — is
a great way to start your
day.
mA
dd whole grains to your
diet by opting for brown
rice, barley, whole-wheat
pasta, flaxseed and
bulgur.

Nine Answers to the Myths About Annuities
There are a lot of myths about annuities. Some are outdated and others are flat-out wrong. Similar to
how today’s cars have features and options that were not available 20 years ago, annuities have evolved
from what they were years ago. Keep informed and get answers!
