It must be identical in substance and in form to the worship described by the Torah and by Chachameinu z”l. One of the most important ingredients of all is “intention of the heart” - what we commonly call, “Kavanah”. The Torah makes a point of describing how the sacrificial offerings placed on the Mizbeach must be “L’shem Isheh” - for the purpose of serving Hakadosh Baruch Hu. The individual Korban must be processed, from shechitah, zerikat hadam (throwing or placement of blood) through the consumption and burning of the body parts, for the sake of the specific kind of Korban intended to be offered. Sanctity is conferred upon what is placed into holy vessels of the Mikdash only by virtue of the Kavanah intended when that vessel is used. This is derived from the association the Mizbeach with all other keilim — mentioned together — in Shmot 40:10. Kavanah is, clearly, the most important ingredient in Avodah. For our tefilot, kavanah is essential in order to offer our uttered thoughts and intentions as worship of God.
