Looking ahead…
SAT and ACT
Juniors should plan on taking the SAT and/or the ACT by June of 2015. Counselors recommend students take each exam one time.
Students that plan on attending Ivy Tech or Vincennes University are not required to take the SAT or ACT, as these schools use their
own placement exams. (Both of these colleges will accept SAT and ACT scores if the student has taken these exams, but test
scores are not required for admission). In addition, some technical or proprietary schools do not require the SAT or ACT. If your
student is unsure of their future plans, it may be a good idea to take these tests just to keep doors open for next year.
Each test costs a fee. Students that qualify for the free or reduced lunch program or are an enrolled 21st Century Scholar can ask
their counselor for a fee waiver.

FFA—WCHS FFA has been keeping busy over the winter!
In December we competed in the District VIII Crops Competition in Shelbyville and placed 1 st Alternate for State.
December and the holiday season also brought one of our larger service projects,
“Adopt-A-Family” project. A group of members were able to shop and provide Christmas presents and a Christmas meal for a family in our community. Students did an
excellent job getting the most for their money and purchasing as much as possible on
their budget. They were also able to wrap and deliver the gifts to the family in person
and see the impact of their donations.
The chapter also competed in the State Dairy Foods Evaluation Competition on January 31st at Purdue University. There were a record number of participants, over 250,
from across the entire state. Whiteland FFA represented extremely well, with one
member, Emily Dougherty, placing in 9th in the entire state in the competition. Our high
placing team (Emily Dougherty, Autumn Peterson, & Cayman Stevens) placed 23 rd in
the state of 65 teams.
February 23-28th National FFA Week was celebrated at WCHS. FFA members worked
hard this entire week to educate the entire school and the community on the importance
of Agriculture. Special activities including a Teacher Appreciation Breakfast, Animal
Petting Zoo, and Rodeo Day were among a few of the highlights. See a photo of some FFA week fun below!
Spring activities for the chapter will include District Leadership Contests on March in March, Officer Elections in March, and our Annual Awards Banquet on Friday, April 24 th! We will also be opening up our newly re-opened greenhouse for a community flower sale
on the weekend of May 2nd! Please come and see us then to support your Whiteland FFA Chapter and members!

“Define Yourselves”
To ALL parents of WCHS students:
Please hold your student(s) accountable for any overdue library materials.
We DO NOT charge library fees. Therefore, I am
asking for your help. We have students who have overdue
materials and other students would like to read them. Help
us by holding your student accountable for library materials
that are overdue. Also, if you happen to locate a book that
has our barcode on it that has WCHS Library over the top,
please send it back to the school, no questions asked.
If the student has lost the item, the library will
accept a replacement (exact book, same author) since we
DO NOT receive the funds back into the library accounts to
re-purchase. If you have any questions or concerns, feel
free to call me at 535-7562 ext. 3142. Thank you for your
help and support!

school, students and parents.
*Suicide is the second leading cause of death among teens.
The Safe School Helpline is now providing an additional service allowing students to talk directly to a trained clinician at any hour of the day or night.
These professionals, with this nationally certified service, will be there to help when problems in a student’s life become too great to handle alone.
