Welcome to the 6th running of the Oakland Running Festival.
We are excited to host this event once again in 2015. When we
started this event in 2010, some people said it would never last. Well
here we are as we happily await the 6th running of the Oakland
Running Festival! The has become a huge success with more than
9,000 runners this year and tremendous community support. The
event has generated more than $11 million in economic impact and
$1 million for local charities.
We are excited to show you why our event won the People’s Choice
award for Best Race in the West by readers of Competitor Magazine,
was featured in Runner’s World, and consistantly receives ratings of 95%
or more for participants willing to recommend our race to a friend.
We are gearing up for another great year. We will once again have our
center of race day activities in Snow Park, located just off the shores
of majestic Lake Merritt. This location provides us plenty of open
green space to allow our runners, fans and sponsors plenty of elbow
room as they celebrate their accomplishments.
This packet includes important information that will prepare you for
the events and activities surrounding race day. If you have entered
the Oakland Marathon, Kaiser Permanente Half-Marathon, Hawaiian
Airlines Team Relay, Bank of the West 5K or Lucky Kids Fun Run, it
is extremely important that you thoroughly read all of the
information in this booklet carefully.
All additional race materials will be available for pick-up at the Kaiser
Permanente Health & Fitness Expo at Oakland Marriott City Center
on March 21. Remember Runner Packets are available for pick-up
during these times ONLY; there will be NO Registration or
Runner Packet Pick-Up on Sunday.
On-line confirmation of your entry is available on the Oakland
Running Festival website. You can search the database of all registered
runners to find out who is participating in this year’s race. For more
information and to view your confirmation, visit our website at
www.OaklandMarathon.com.

Participants in the WE RUN THIS TOWN CHALLENGE will
receive one bib that will be worn for both races.
When you pick up your race number, it will contain your B-Tag

your time recorded if it is removed.

You must wear your race number on the front of your body
throughout the race.
Marathoners & Relay runners are asked to wear their race

Do not exchange or transfer your number to someone else. Doing
so may result in disqualification of both runners this year & in the future.
In order to help our Medical Team work more efficiently,

your race bib with a ballpoint pen (markers tend to bleed.)

instructions or commands, approaching vehicles or course marshals on foot
or on bicycles, you may be asked to relinquish the device.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Those competing in the Oakland Running
Festival for prize money may not use such devices and will not be
eligible for any prize money or trips to Hawaii if such device is worn.

Race Day Medical Information
The Oakland RunFest Medical Team is a dedicated
volunteer group of medical professionals from Kaiser Permanente.
There will be medical stations at the start and at or near the following
mile markers: 4, 6, 11, 17, 20, 25 as well as at the finish. In addition, we will
have a team of EMT’s on bicycles throughout the course.
Medical Staff will have the right to withdraw any runners from the race
at their discretion should they appear in distress or at risk should they
continue running. To help our Medical Team work efficiently, please
fill out the medical history on your race bib with a ball point pen.
Starting Marathon, Half-Marathon & Relay
The startline for all adult races is located at 19th Street and Harrison
St. near Snow Park. Once at the startline, please find the signs
denoting runner’s estimated marathon pace per mile (i.e. 6 minute/
mile, 7 minute/mile, etc.).
Start in the designated “Pace Per Mile” area according to the pace you
expect to run the race. This is for your benefit as well as for other
competitors. Remember, your chip time will begin when you cross
the timing mat. Pre-Race water will be available near the start line, in
addition to porta-pot restrooms that will be located in Snow Park.
Dropping Out of the Races
If you need to drop out of the race for any reason, please report to
the nearest medical station or aid station on the course and inform
them that you are retiring from the race. We will have a sag wagon
following the last runner. The sag wagon will take runners to the
nearest exchange point to ride the bus to the finish area. Do not
cross the finish line if you did not complete the entire race. The
timing chip will record an inaccurate finishing time.
On-Course Aid Stations
There are aid stations on the course at or near the
following marathon mile markers: Start, 2, 4, 6, 8, 9.5,11,
12.5, 14, 15.5, 17, 18.5, 20, 21.5, 23, 25 and Finish. Water &

some tips for a good fan: 1) Wear Comfortable Shoes. There are
several excellent viewing points but you may walk further than some
runners! 2) Come up with a few things to shout at the runners as
they pass. “You’re almost there” should not be one of them unless
you are within the final .2 mile stretch! 3) Make lots of noisecowbells are great, but pots & pans work too!
