Tim Pastore
President, Original Programming & Production
National Geographic Channel U.S.
Sponsored for the first time this year by leading international producer and distributor
ZDF Enterprises, the MIPDoc Co-production Pitch competition is open to all creators and
producers from across the globe seeking to develop factual and documentary projects
with co-production partners.
This year's competitors will have an unprecedented opportunity to present their most
compelling new projects to ZDF Enterprises, the commercial arm of the German public
broadcaster ZDF, and one of the most influential producers and distributors of factual and
documentary programming on the media landscape today.
The MIPDoc Pitch competition is an integral part of MIPDoc’s Co-production Initiative, which
sees major commissioning editors and buyers from around the world gather together to
meet with some of the hundreds of producers in Cannes looking for
co-production partners.
Competitors for the MIPDoc Pitch will be narrowed down to five finalists who will be invited
by ZDF Enterprises to pitch live to a jury made up of senior executives from ZDF Enterprises
and a selection of senior programmers.
Tim Pastore, President, Original Programming & Production, National Geographic
Channels U.S., will share his insights on the group’s flourishing content development
activities with the MIPDoc audience, and talk about where he sees the future of factual
programming faced with ever-changing consumer habits. With a string of Emmy
nominations to his credit, Pastore oversees all development, production and production
management for National Geographic Channel U.S., and is responsible for
approximately 400 hours of content annually. Based in New York, he works closely with

FROM THE GODFATHER OF FACTUAL DRAMA:
“MAKING OF THE MOB”
From Stephen David – the EMMY-nominated Executive Producer of THE MEN WHO
BUILT AMERICA and THE WORLD WARS – comes THE MAKING OF THE MOB: NEW YORK,
a new docudrama event series for AMC.
Before there was organized crime, there was chaos in the American underworld –
every man was out for himself – until, one young gangster forged an alliance that
would create the first criminal empire. Amidst a bloody turf war, Salvatore "Lucky"
Luciano rose through the ranks of the Sicilian Mafia. He recruited the brightest and
toughest young men from New York’s immigrant slums, spawning a new generation of
gangland masterminds. Notorious men like Meyer Lansky, Bugsy Siegel and Frank
Costello….
Soon, what started as The Five Families spread across the country and overseas...
forming an international syndicate working in the shadows of legitimate business.
It was… THE MAKING OF THE MOB.
