Changing The Feedstock - Processing Off-Shore Crude Contents: Introduction Objectives Processing Strategy Project Description Project Complexity & Challenges Project Highlights Conclusion Changing The Feedstock - Processing Off-Shore Crude Introduction Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company (TAKREER) was created in 1999 to manage the downstream oil refining activities for Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC). TAKREER is responsible for operating and developing the refining industry for ADNOC. Two Refineries currently exist in Abu Dhabi Emirate with a total refining capacity of 485,000 bpsd; however a new refinery rated at 417,000 bpsd has been implemented in Ruwais and is in start-up. Changing The Feedstock - Processing Off-Shore Crude Introduction Phase-0 Phase-1 Phase-2 Changing The Feedstock - Processing Off-Shore Crude Introduction TAKREER is currently commissioning the Ruwais Refinery Expansion (RRE) Project and constructing CBDC Project. RRE Project has a processing capacity of 417,000 bpsd of “Onshore Murban Crude”. To take advantage of the operating flexibility in the design of the facilities it has been decided to carry out modifications to process heavier off-shore crude oil. Murban Crude feeding the new facilities will be replaced by “Offshore Crude” from Upper Zakum fields and will be transferred by subsea pipeline to onshore. Changing The Feedstock - Processing Off-Shore Crude Objectives TAKREER’s objective is to suitably modify RRE and CBDC Facilities to process 420,000 bpsd of “Offshore Crude” from Upper Zakum instead of “Murban Crude”. The Front End Engineering & Design (FEED) has been completed by M/s International Bechtel Limited in London, UK. An EPC Tender Enquiry has been issued to international engineering contractors on a competitive bid basis as a lump sum turnkey Project. EPC duration is 54 months from award to Provisional Acceptance (PAC) with commercial production at Month 51. Changing The Feedstock - Processing Off-Shore Crude Processing Strategy The “Offshore Crude” from Upper Zakum has a higher residue yield and contaminants compared to the design feed of Murban. The distillate and residue streams produced will require treatment through new De-sulphurisation processes. The core change is the addition of a 177,000bpsd Atmospheric Residue De-Sulphurisation (ARDS) Unit and supporting facilities. The higher sulphur content in Offshore Crude and the addition of ARDS unit will require additional hydrogen manufacturing units, amine regeneration, sour water stripping and sulphur recovery capacity. Changing The Feedstock - Processing Off-Shore Crude Project Description In order to process the Offshore Crude in the new facility, the existing RRE and CBDC units will be suitably modified and new units will be added as follows: New Units: Atmospheric Residue De-Sulphurisation Unit (ARDS) under Chevron Lummus Global License. Saturated Gas Plant. Hydrogen Manufacturing Unit (HMU). Sour Water Stripper (SWS), Amine Regeneration Unit (ARU), Sulphur Recovery Units (SRU) and Tail Gas Treating Unit (TGTU). Utilities (power, water and steam). Changing The Feedstock - Processing Off-Shore Crude Project Description Modified Units: Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) – Open Art. Saturated Gas Plant and Saturated LPG Splitter – Open Art. LGO Diesel Hydro-treating Unit under UOP License. HGO/LCO Mild Hydro-treating Unit under UOP License. Sea Water System. Safety of personnel and existing facilities. Complicated Ties-ins especially piping and control systems. Minimum interruption, shutdown and isolation to existing facilities in operation. Interfaces. Logistics and management of heavy hauls. Pre-commissioning, Commissioning and Start-up. Changing The Feedstock - Processing Off-Shore Crude Project Highlights FEED was completed in March 2015. Licensors have been engaged and studies progressed. All non-Licensors Units have been updated. EPC Tendering Phase started in April 2015. EPC Project duration is 54 months. POC is an EPC Lump Sum Turn Key (LSTK) Project. Changing The Feedstock - Processing Off-Shore Crude Conclusion POC Project offers both strategic and economic advantages for the ADNOC group companies through upgrading and increased production of value added products. This is achieved by increasing the processing of treated atmospheric residue through the Residue Fluid Catalytic Cracking (RFCC) implemented under the RRE Project. شكرا جزيال Thank You
