Members Alert and Accommodation Booking Form
MEMBERS ALERT: Yes, your conference is happening!
Your Conference Committee is currently working hard to assemble a substantial program to address our
Conference theme.
Registrations will open next week. Our conference will be held at the Twin Waters Resort on the Sunshine
Coast, a great rate has been obtained, starting from $152 per night. Bookings must be made directly with
the Resort by completing the attached accommodation booking form and emailing to
[email protected], please do not delay in securing your accommodation. This advice is
provided so our members can lock in the dates and start preparing to attend this signature training and
development event.
The way Building Surveyors deliver their compliance services is changing. Once our role was predominately
reviewing documents and undertaking regular inspections during construction but this approach is passing
into history. The traditional safety net of a checklist underpinning a largely regulatory role is being replaced
by a broader contribution in the building development process: electronic technology has replaced the
paper plans and red ink stamp pads; there is much more reliance on certifications and evidence of
sustainability.
Also significant is the move, now well publicised and gathering momentum, to increase the use and
application of performance requirements: the entry point and mandatory part of the NCC. This will require
a change of mindset in how Building Surveyors apply the code and substantially enhance their contribution
to the building process.
What has not changed is the Building Surveyor’s fundamental statutory obligation – to act in the public
interest to ensure a built environment where buildings are safe, accessible and energy efficient.
The Committee’s aim is to provide a forum that focuses heavily on matters that are vital if Building
Surveyors are to cement their place as true professionals. Accordingly, we intend to examine aspects
where Building Surveyors might get caught out or trip up performing their important role. The program will
draw together 3 keynote addresses, speakers from industry and building surveying professionals to provide
delegates with information that we all need to know for not only doing our business differently but, most
importantly, doing our business well. Ample time will also be provided for delegates to participate in the
proceedings: in addition to the regular question time there will be a member’s forum, half a day of
interactive workshops and numerous opportunities for networking with peers and industry representatives.
In summary the program will comprise:

 Keynote Address – Acting in the Public Interest
