AFTC5 The Alstom Advantage
Meeting all market needs. AFTC5 is a highly configurable, jointless Audio
Frequency Track Circuit. It is designed to operate between the interlocking and trackside
AFTC equipment to vitally generate and receive rate-coded carrier for train detection and
generate rate-coded carrier for speed commands to the train.
Additionally, AFTC5 can generate and receive bidirectional non-vital train-wayside
communication signals. AFTC5 eliminates the need for discrete wiring due to Ethernet
communications with other AFTC5 units and interlocking processors.
EASILY CONFIGURABLE —
AT LOWER COST
Parameters, such as frequencies, code
rates, transmit/receive levels and IP
addresses, are software configurable,
allowing identical track circuit hardware
to be used. AFTC5 reduces wiring costs
using simple connections to the power
supply, Ethernet, and trackside equipment.
AFTC5 provides the clear advantages
of accurate frequency transmission and
reception and improved stability due to
its digital signal processing capabilities.

REMOTE DIAGNOSTICS
Alstom’s Maintenance Management
System (MMS) provides extensive
diagnostic information for maintainers
with remote or local access to perform
preventive and corrective maintenance.
MMS communicates with AFTC5
using Ethernet, collecting historic
data measurements to determine
overall track circuit health.
AFTC5’s compact solution supports six
track circuits in its 19-inch subrack.
Typically four AFTC5 subracks can be
mounted in a customer’s 19-inch rack,
to support up to 24 track circuits.

AFTC5 supports installed Alstomcompatible trackside equipment and
the wide range of customer-assigned
frequency sets. AFTC5 Ethernet
communication easily works with single
and redundant interlocking processors.
Signaling design is streamlined through
the use of configurable AFTC5 modules
and interlocking processors.

APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT
TOOL (ADT)
Example Configuration Windows
Signaling engineers use this
application development tool
to configure the AFTC5 system.
ADT documents key technical
features, capturing train detection,
cab signaling, train-wayside
communication, network and
interfaced field equipment
configuration data.
Configuration data generated
using ADT is flashed onto
configuration keys used to program
each TCU module. ADT supports
efficient configuration when TCU
modules require replacement
and are reprogrammed using the
configuration keys.
