After joining TCU Dining ten years ago, Larry has worked in several different positions, however, running the Smoothie Bar is among his favorite. “I enjoy this position the most because it is very interactive and I’m able to really get to know the students,” he explained. You can tell that Larry truly enjoys his work, and we wanted to find out a little bit more about the charming “Mr. Smoothie.” Here is what we learned… FEED THE FROG: How did you learn about Sodexo? LARRY: My brother began working here originally, and he told me about some open positions. I applied and have been working here ever since. I worked in many different areas and it has been an interesting and rewarding experience. “Mr. Smoothie” Strawberry, Blueberry, Bananas, or Kale, it doesn't matter what you want blended, “Mr. Smoothie” makes them all so well ! Larry Webb, “Mr. Smoothie” in Market Square mixes up all types of smoothie drinks for the students of Texas Christian University. Larry is one person who really takes to heart TCU Dining Service’s motto, “Feed The Frog”! FEED THE FROG: What do you value about working Local Businesses 4 Together we make a difference 4 Delivering on the Experience April 14, 2014 was the event of the semester! TCU Dining held it’s 1st Annual Boots & BBQ Bash to provide students one last hurrah before finals. Students enjoyed a break from studying and test taking to experience a two hour trip back to the Old West. The Market Square Dining Hall was transformed into the Wild, Wild, West complete with; brisket from Railhead BBQ, frozen Lemon and Strawberry Chill, soft pretzels with all the toppings, purple ice cream floats, a balloon artist, and headliner Big Joe Walker provided the musical arrangements. Super Frog was also there to help pass out free Feed-The-Frog t-shirts. The t -shirts are a wearable coupon that is eligible for discounts in our retail dining locations in the fall. Students that follow TCU Dining on Facebook and Twitter will be alerted to wear their Boots & BBQ t-shirts on a specific day and time to receive free or discounted products. Students enjoyed the western experience courtesy of TCU Dining Services. for Sodexo? LARRY: I value the entire experience. Every company has their ups and downs, but this job has allowed me to learn and figure out areas where I can excel. I have made friends, built relationships, and learned more about myself. There are tradeoffs at any work place. I just remember that the good should always outweigh the bad. FEED THE FROG: What encouraging words would you give to someone aspiring to improve or change their current position? LARRY: I would encourage people to smile and network. Every situation isn’t ideal, but a positive attitude will help you make it through the day. Keep your head up because things can always get better. We gave away 1000 TCU reusable cups filled with information on TCU Dining’s sustainability efforts, and a bottle of Agana Rainwater. An Agana representative was on hand to assist in handing out the rainwater and to speak about the product. We also use this day to draw the name of the winner to the Honest Tea Foldable Earth Month Bike. Bryce Baca was the lucky winner and he was very excited to get the bike! Implementing Simple Servings and Mindful was our way to help satisfy students desire to not only understand the nutritional value of a meal, but to see transparency in menus and know exactly where the ingredients were sourced. TCU Dining introduced Simple Servings on the TCU campus to provide safe and appetizing food choices for our students with food allergies, gluten intolerance, or those who prefer simple foods. Sodexo has implemented Mindful by Sodexo at colleges and universities across the nation. Mindful’s menu items all meet specific criteria, providing balanced and healthy meals that are both rich in flavor and ingredients. TCU Dining’s Quality of Life services make a positive impact on the entire campus community. TCU Dining is your partner in creating exceptional experiences for your students, faculty, staff and campus guests. Everything we do is focused on providing innovative solutions that reinforce your mission and help you achieve your longterm goals. TCU Dining continually strives to improve the services our students desire.
