Reading is essential for improving verbal skills. Summer reading will be evaluated during the first two
weeks of school. These books are available in public libraries, the public and school library app, and
local bookstores. Taking notes aids comprehension and retention.

Please use the guided reading question below to aide in your comprehension of the text. Use textual
evidence to help support your answers.
1. Describe Q’s best friends. Where do they fit into the caste system of Winter Park High School?
2. Why do you think Margo picked Q as her accomplice on her campaign of revenge?
3. Do you think the characters Margo targets for revenge get what they deserve? Does Lacey
deserve to be included?
4. Do you think Margo wants to be found? Do you think she wants to be found by Q?
5. Why does Q begin to believe that Margo commits suicide? What clues make this seem like a
viable solution to her whereabouts?
6. Describe what Q finds in the abandoned mini-mall and how the book contributes both to the
plot of the story and to what her ultimately learns about Margo and himself.
7. Why do you think Q makes the decision he does at the end of the book? Do you agree with
his decision?
8. The definition of “paper town” changes many times in the book. Describe the evolution of its
meaning. How does it relate to the mystery? To the themes of the book?
9. Q’s parents describe people as “windows” and “mirrors”. What does this mean? Do you
agree with this metaphor?
10. At different times, both Margo and Q use lines of poetry without considering the context of the
whole poem. How do you think this changes the meaning?
