presents June 4-6, 2015 FESTIVAL GUIDE Welcome to the Creative Age Festival Workshops: Presented by North Edmonton Seniors Association Creative Age Edmonton, in collaboration with North Edmonton Seniors Association (NESA) and GeriActors, is excited to bring you the Creative Age Festival 2015. Register: $15 – 25 / Workshop Creative Age Edmonton celebrates the power of the arts to transform older adults. Taking part in the arts allows us to express our identity, concerns and aspirations and adds to our sense of well-being, quality of life and connection with the community. Thursday, June 4 June 4 - 6, 2015 Take in one of our 55+ workshops in Shakespeare, Dance, Drumming, Handbells, Memoir Writing, Musical Improv, Performance Storytelling, Painting, and Pottery. All abilities welcome. No experience necessary. 3 workshops for $40 Call NESA at 780-496-6969 10am - 12pm Pottery with Elaine Kwan Follow us: Learn the basics of handbuilding with pinching and coil techniques to build a small flowerpot or pencil holder. Experience the joys and challenges of working with clay, with the secondary emphasis on the finished product. All supplies, glazing and firing costs included. This workshop will provide you with inspiration to jog your memories and time to put those stories on the page. There will also be an opportunity to share your stories with others. Friday, June 5 1pm - 3pm 10am - 12pm North Edmonton Seniors Association Performance Storytelling with GeriActors We all have stories to tell – some from recent past and others from long ago. Led by members of GeriActors, you’ll turn your stories into moments of theatre to be shared with others. Cost: $15 2pm - 4pm Handbells with Wendy Hoskin North Edmonton Seniors Association This workshop is in two parts – join Amber and Shula again Saturday, June 6 from 10am – 12pm. Cost $25 10:30am - 12pm 6pm - 8pm with Grindstone Theatre This workshop is all about making up songs on the spot! You’ll explore song structure, melody, rhythm, song styles and the different techniques used to make up unforgettable songs! This workshop is in two parts – join Grindstone Theatre again Saturday, June 6 from 10am – 12pm. Cost: $25 6pm - 8pm Watercolours with Willie Wong Watercolours made easy. Join Willie in this 2-hour workshop, designed for all levels of experience, as he walks you through the basics of painting with watercolours. Cost $15 with Amber Borotsik & Shula Strassfeld Get ready to move with Amber and Shula! Discover new ways of expressing yourself, countless ways to move, and share your story in a unique and exciting way. To ring a handbell, the ringer moves it in such a way that the clapper strikes the inside surface of the bell. This workshop will cover basic ringing techniques including correct form, how to read handbell music, and how to participate in an ensemble. No experience needed. Cost: $15 Musical Improv (Part 1) Dance and Physical Storytelling (Part 1) Memoir Writing (Part 2) with Shirley Serviss 12pm - 1pm Lunch FREE for all workshop participants 1pm - 3pm Acting Shakespeare with David Barnet Try out Juliet or Lear – it’s easier than you think! Play and have fun with the bard with award-winning teacher David Barnet. Saturday. June 6 10am - 12pm Dance and Physical Storytelling (Part 2) 10am - 12pm African Drumming with Amber Borotsik & Shula Strassfeld with Deborah Bortscher Love to drum or want to learn? Djembe players use three basic sounds: bass, tone, and slap. These sounds are achieved by varying the striking technique and position. Join Deborah to learn all the parts of a drum song from West Africa. Drums provided or bring your own. Cost: $15 10am - 12pm Musical Improv (Part 2) with Grindstone Theatre Performances: Venue Information: Arts Extravaganza!
