Netball newsletter 2015
RHS NETBALL March 2015 WELCOME TO THE 2015 NETBALL SEASON Welcome to the 2015 RHS Netball Season and our first Newsletter of the season. NETBALL NEWS We are pleased to advise that all our trials have been held and we have a total of 17 Teams – 1 up on 2014. Congratulations to all players, you made the selectors jobs very difficult and it is great to see the high standard of Netball being played from Year 9 right through to Year 13. A big thank you must go out to all our selectors and umpires who gave up their time to volunteer for such a hard job!!! All the teams look fantastic and we are looking forward to a very exciting 2015 season. We are currently in the process of finalising team Coaches and Managers, once this is done they will be in touch to organise team trainings. In the meantime please keep up your own fitness ready for the season ahead. We are pleased to announce that this year we have purchased 180 new dresses, which is fantastic news. This of course was an expensive exercise but will be worth it to have all the players/ teams in the same dresses and looking nice and unified. We have many plans for 2015 and beyond and this is the first step in moving forward and installing a valued culture within RHS Netball. Netball is one of the largest sports played at RHS and along with having so many Netballers out there playing comes a lot of necessary background work to be completed. We are lucky to now have a small group of volunteers helping the school in making sure Netball continues to thrive. This small group have been brain storming over the summer months and have come up with some fantastic ideas to make RHS Netball a force to be reckoned with!!!. If anyone has some ideas or suggestions that they would like to share, please feel free to let us know. Contact us email [email protected] or phone: 311 8888 extn 506 and speak to Wendy or Leigh Pictured above is Louise Johnson, Deputy Head Girl wearing the new Rangiora High School Netball Dress for the 2015 season. Louise is a member of the Senior A netball Talent with the Tactix Pictured right show photos of the Player Developement Programme which is run by North Canterbruy Netball Centre. A large number of Rangiora High School netball players have benefited from the 10 week programme that was offered to North Canterbury Netballers. Over the 10 week programme the girls participated in Skills and Drills and Fitness. Gemma Hazeldine from the Tactix Netball Team took the girls through a 10 week programme invovling skills, drills and fitness. On the last night of the programme Gemma arranged for Mwai Kumwenda , Bailey Mes and Zoe Walker her fellow team mates from the Tactix to attend and join in for the session. Caitlyn Hepworth was the last girl standing in the goal shootout competition, beating all 3 Tactix shooters. Well done Caitlyn. Rangiora High School Netball thanks North Canterbury Netball Centre for offering such a wonderful programme which benefits so many netballers. Our Senior Coaches Our Senior A Coach for the 2015 season is Amy Eckersley. Amy joined the Netball Mainland team in 2012 as the Youth Development Officer and in November 2014 took over the role as Community Netball Manager. Amy is responsible for supporting the Netball Centres in the Mainland Zone to grow and sustain participation numbers for players, coaches, officials and administrators. Amy has a Bachelor of Sports Coaching from University of Canterbury and this will be her 3rd year with the RHS Senior A team. Amy is supported this year by Hayley Fletcher as Assistant Coach. Hayley is born and bred Rangiora High School Girl and a very talented netballer having played at Premier level and represented Canterbury Country. Hayley has been involved in North Canterbruy Netball in roles as President of Ashley Netball Club, as a coach, selector and umpire. It is exciting to have Hayley with school netball this year. SPONSORSHIP One of our goals is to have all the girls wearing the RHS black hoodies as soon as we can. Therefore we want to put this out to the RHS Netball community and see if there are potential sponsors out there who would be willing to contribute to this. To purchase a Team set of 10 RHS black hoodies it is an approximate cost of $500.00. This includes the printing of the RHS logo on the left chest, Rangiora down one sleeve and of course the players last name on the lower back. We envisage that the sponsors logo would either go on the right chest or on the other sleeve. If you would like to sponsor a team, your daughters team or know of anyone out there who would be keen to sponsor a team we would love your help to be able to achieve this goal for the 2015 season. Therefore if you are interested please make contact with either Wendy Cathcart or, Leigh Bolton 311 8888 ext 506 or our RHS Netball Funding/Sponsorship Co-Ordinator Mel Calvert on 027 306 8148. Pictured above is last years 10A Team at Grand Finals Day wearing the RHS black hoodies. FUNDRAISING This year we are planning on doing a raffle. This is the first time in many years that we have organised fundraising and for some of you perhaps the only one you will ever do for RHS Netball. We have a massive wish list of items, all of which will benefit everyone. We feel the only way to be able to achieve this quickly is to fundraise. We already have some sponsored items for the raffle, however we will be asking each player to donate a small grocery item and sell tickets so we can make this fundraiser as successful as possible. This is only a little heads up and details of the raffle will come out at a later date.
