The Sir James Dunn Animal Welfare Graduate Scholarships Terms of Reference Originated: March 27, 2015 Values: Masters Student (Domestic) $24,522 – renewable for one additional year Masters Student (International) $31,467 – renewable for one additional year PhD Student (Domestic) $24,522 – renewable for two additional years PhD Student (International) $31,467 – renewable for two additional years To begin in Academic Year: 2015/16 Background: Since 1994, generous support from the Sir James Dunn and Christofor Foundations has provided the stable foundation for establishment of the Sir James Dunn Animal Welfare Centre (SJDAWC) at the Atlantic Veterinary College, UPEI. The SJDAWC advances animal welfare through a broad array of initiatives in research, service, and education to improve the lives of animals. The renewed commitment from the Christofor Foundation for the period 2015 to 2020 includes funding for the new Sir James Dunn Animal Welfare Graduate Scholarship to support the training of researchers at the Masters or Doctoral level. Criteria: This scholarship will be awarded to candidates who are pursuing animal welfare research at the University of Prince Edward Island and meet the admission criteria for graduate studies at UPEI. Students who receive the award for support of a Masters program are eligible to apply again for support for a subsequent PhD program. This scholarship may be held simultaneously with other awards. Where there are two equally qualified candidates, preference will be given to a candidate who is normally resident in Canada. The selection and application process and deadlines will be defined by the internal Sir James Dunn Animal Welfare Centre (SJDAWC) Management Board in consultation with the VP Research and Graduate Studies at UPEI. The successful candidates will be recommended by the SJDAWC Management Board in consultation with the Dean of AVC, and approved by the UPEI Senate Committee on Scholarships and Awards.
