HELPFUL TIPS & INFORMATION FOR PERFORMERS
What makes a good act for the variety show? Planning. Preparedness. Confidence. Enthusiasm. Humor. Eye contact. Presence.
Smiles. Laughs. Memories. Surprises. Heart. Rehearsal. Rehearsal. Rehearsal . . .
COME PREPARED! We are not impressed with hearing about your plans! We need to see an act that is ready to perform!!! You must
bring your music CD, instruments, and any other props or equipment necessary to perform your act with you to auditions and the
mandatory rehearsal. Otherwise, you are not likely to be considered for/allowed to participate in the show.
This is a variety show; NOT a talent contest. No prizes will be awarded.
Performance opportunities: This year’s shows are by grade-level. Most likely, you will only perform for your own grade level. You
might possibly be asked to perform for another grade level if there is a need. If we need you, we will ask you. Do not ask us.
If you’re planning to perform with friends, make sure that everyone in your group is fully committed. Every year, we have students
at auditions who are counting on a friend to audition with them, only to have that person “no-show”. This is heart-breaking. As you
plan your act, make sure that everyone in your group will be present for auditions, rehearsals, and performances.
Wireless mics are now available for the variety show. Also available: acoustic piano, electronic piano, gym mats, CD and tape
players (in the sound system).
If you are singing with a CD, make sure that it is an INSTRUMENTAL KARAOKE CD, WITH THE LEAD VOCAL REMOVED. These CD’s
are readily available with a little planning; be sure to bring your CD to the auditions and rehearsals. We will not allow singers to sing
along with a regular CD. NO EXCEPTIONS. (This does not apply to those playing an instrument to a CD. Original recording is fine.)
Musical selections and costumes must be appropriate! Be completely sure that your song selection or the CD music your are using
is completely appropriate for our audience. COSTUMES MUST ALSO BE APPROPRIATE! If you’re unsure, get Mrs. Rothwell’s opinion.
AUDITIONS: Thursday, May 21st @ 3:30 in the AMS Auditorium
Auditions will be held on a first come, first served basis. If you want to finish early, come to the auditorium just as soon as you are
released. After your audition, you are free—encouraged!— to leave. If you have a note from a parent indicating that you need to
audition early because of an appointment, etc., please see Mrs. Rothwell immediately and she will work with you to finish your
audition as quickly as possible. When you arrive for auditions, find everyone who is auditioning with you and turn in your forms
together. Your place in line for auditions will be secured as soon as your entire group checks in. Please BE PATIENT and COURTEOUS.
The auditions can run long, especially for the adults in charge. BE WELL-BEHAVED, RESPECTFUL, SUPPORTIVE, AND QUIET WHILE YOU
ARE WAITING. If we have issues with your behavior or your attitude during auditions, we will NOT include you in the show. Auditions
are open only to people who are auditioning for the show, no spectators allowed. If your plans and/or your participants change in
any way after auditions, PLEASE let Mrs. Rothwell know right away! QUESTIONS? Please ask Mrs. Rothwell or have your parents
contact her via email at [email protected].
Have fun and break a leg!
