He is risen indeed! Hallelujah! Christians all over the world today are greeting each other with these words; we are invited to do the same as we gather and celebrate God’s great act of power, grace and triumph as we celebrate Jesus’ rising from the dead. We worship together with great joy, celebrating all aspects of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ and his ultimate victory over sin, death, evil and misery. Our service title and theme is “SIGNS OF HOPE AND JOY.” Interested in making profession of faith? Membership at Bethel Church? For a further conversation, contact Pastor Eric at [email protected] FROM COUNCIL NOMINATIONS: Council invites the congregation to submit nominations for 3 elders and 3 deacons. PRAYER MINISTRY AT BETHEL Each week we are encouraged to formulate our personal prayers using such categories as our city, our community, our world; the deepening of God’s people; the extending of God’s kingdom; the flourishing of love, justice and peace and the spread of the gospel. ONGOING PRAYERS FOR ONE ANOTHER: Pray for Bethel members and friends; those with ongoing health concerns as well as those unable to be with us regularly: Jan P., Alice V., Margaret S., Melissa P., Rika V., Ryan H., Jenica GN. Pastor Eric Groot-Nibbelink: 519.453.0767 (church study); [email protected] Chair of Council: John Van Til: 519.453.5844; [email protected] Office Administrator: Irene de Boer; 519.453.6565; [email protected] Office Hours: Tuesday morning; Thursday afternoon; Friday morning. Bulletin submission deadline: Thursday @ noon. PRAYER EXERCISE: To enhance our prayers in 2015 we pay attention to the prayers that Jesus taught in response to the plea “Lord, teach us to pray...” (see Luke 11, Matthew 6). Each week we are invited to reflect on an aspect of the Lord’s Prayer and consider how we might incorporate that piece into our daily prayers. This week we reflect on prayer the Heidelberg Catechism’s commentary related to the typical closing word of any prayer, “Amen.” Although not cited in the words of Jesus in his prayer teaching in the gospels, consider this commentary on the word AMEN. It means “This is sure to be! It is even more sure that God listens to my prayer, than that I really desire what I pray for.” A simple translation of the word amen is the word “yes” but “yes” communicated emphatically and intensely. On this Easter Sunday we may think of Jesus Christ, his death and especially his resurrection as God’s most powerful YES spoken in grace to his creation, to the world and to us. “For all of God's promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding "Yes!" And through Christ, our "Amen" (which means "Yes") ascends to God for his glory.” 2 Corinthians 1:20 time. For more information contact Counselor Harry . Worship Planning Team Notes: Worship's Meaning and Purpose: The eighth norm or basic perspective is that Christian Worship should be a generous and excellent outpouring of ourselves before God. As we worship ourselves we want to lavishly pour out to God our love and praise to him, giving him the best of who we are and are able to offer. In worship, as we choose music and words, give time and talents and treasures, focus our thoughts and attention; we want to do so giving God our most generous best.
