Africa Centre Summer Camp Program Staff
Council for Advancement of African Canadians in Alberta (CAAC), operating as Africa Centre, has been
providing summer programming for children over the past 6 summers. These camps provide
opportunities for all children of the African Community to participate in a 6 week summer camp. The
camp provides academic, recreation and cultural based components for the children and youth.
The Africa Centre is seeking individuals interested in the following position(s):
Summer Camp Program Staff – Art and Culture Focus/Academic & Early Childhood Focus /Sports and
Recreation Focus

Temporary Full-time Summer Student Position (mid-June to mid-August)
10 weeks, 37.5 hours/week
$15/hour
The key responsibilities of this position will include:
Activity Planning and Daily Camp Activity
 Take a lead role in planning activities related to one of three areas: Art and Culture, Academics,
Early Childhood or, Sport and Recreation
 Assist in planning and organizing relevant activities for children and youth including leadership &
life skills, recreation, and their cultural community that enhance their resilience, relationship
building and leadership skills
 Participate in the delivery of all programming
 Provide proper supervision in all activities to ensure the safety of the program participants,
including during snacks and meals
 Help to maintain housekeeping standards by ensuring all program facilities are left clean prior to
the commencement of the camp and after each activity and each meal
 Complete documentation and reporting as required
The successful candidate will have the following:
 The enthusiasm and ability to work with youth from a variety of backgrounds in a group setting
 Previous experience with children and youth, ages 5-16 years
 Knowledge of children’s activities and community resources in the area of academics, art and
culture, health and nutrition, leadership, and physical activity and recreation
 Communicates clearly in English, both orally and in writing to support academic tutoring
 Knowledge of French and/or other African languages is an asset
 Ability to manage time effectively and be results oriented
 Capable of performing independently as well as in a team environment

Available to work Monday thru Friday between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM from June 11 – August 19,
2015
A clear Security Clearance Check and Child & Youth Intervention Check are conditions of hire
Candidates will have been registered as a full-time post-secondary student during the 2014-15
academic year and intend to return to post-secondary on a full-time basis for the 2015-16
academic year
Candidates are required to be:
o Canadian citizens, or,
o Permanent Residents, or,
o A person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and
Refugee Protection Act.
