March 2015
Dear Parents and Students,
With the 4th marking period just around the corner, there are a few items of interest that I would like
to inform everyone about.
The Keystone Exams are end-of-course assessments that help determine whether or not a
student has mastered the state standards associated with a particular course. Beginning
with the Class of 2017 students must demonstrate proficiency on the Algebra I, Biology,
and Literature exams to graduate.
Students currently enrolled in Fundamentals of Biology II, Honors Biology, Algebra I, and all 10th
grade English classes will be taking the exams later this year. Students who have not passed a prior
Keystone exam have already been notified about their status concerning exam re-takes. Our high
school “Keystone Camp” will begin on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 and run through Friday, May 1,
2015. Students were given information concerning the camp. If you are interested in attending,
please contact the high school office for more information at (570)784-6100.
Our next set of Keystone Exams will begin on May 13, 2015. The exam schedule will be the
following:
Keystone Biology – May 13 and 14
Keystone Algebra – May 15 and 18
Keystone Literature – May 19 and 20
There are many other exciting events taking place in our high school during the last quarter of our
year. We have our Graduates of Distinction Ceremony at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1 in our
Auditorium. Our NHS Induction Ceremony will take place on Thursday, April 16, and will begin at
7:00 p.m. Please take the time to experience these events if you can. For additional event listings,
visit the Bloomsburg Area School District on the web at http://bloomsburgasd.schoolwires.com
Please remember to be on time for school during this important time of the year. (7:45 a.m. homeroom begins). Please look through this newsletter to view the latest happenings here at the high
school.
Sincerely,
Dan Bonomo

Message from the School Nurse
Hello Everyone!
We have been making some changes in the nurse’s office. Since the two
schools are connected, we have combined the Middle School and High
School offices into one. This will hold many benefits for the students:




The nurse’s office will never have to be closed (unless of
an emergent situation).
Students and staff always know where to find a nurse.
There will be two medical opinions for students-from both the
school nurse and the health aide.
Student privacy will be maintained.
The combined nurse’s office is located in the old Middle School Health Room.
This is a short distance from the old High School Health Room.
Any medications that are brought in for students should now be taken
to the Middle School Front Office. This will help to ensure student privacy.
Also, all medication that is delivered to school must be signed by a parent or
responsible adult in the presence of the nurse.
We believe that this change will be beneficial to all students. If you have any
questions, please feel free to call us at 570-784-9102.
Sincerely,
Sara Talanca, RN, CSN
&
Geri Hewlett, LPN
