FALL 2015 TEAM REGISTRATION GUIDE – GIRLS ON THE RUN CAPITAL AREA
Thank you for your interest in hosting a Girls on the Run team in Fall 2015! We are looking forward to an
inspiring season! Teams will be accepted on a first come, first served basis beginning April 15, 2015. Please
read the information below carefully to secure your team’s spot.
Who does Capital Area Girls on the Run serve?
Elementary and middle schools in Dauphin, Cumberland, and Perry Counties are eligible to host a team. Our
elementary program is for 3rd-5th grade girls, and our middle school program is for 6th-8th grade girls. The
program can also serve girls at churches and community centers.
What does Girls on the Run provide?







Support to set up your team and to ensure success throughout the season!
Liability insurance
Coaches training and CPR certification
Curriculum and lesson materials
Online registration for participants
Informational fliers and promotion on our website and Facebook page
All at no cost to the school/site!
Your school/site must provide the following:






Permission from the school principal or site director to host a GOTR team.
A Site Liaison, who serves as the link between GOTR and the coaches, parents, and participants. The
site liaison is normally the head coach.
Permission to distribute informational fliers and to use the facilities. Any paperwork related to fliers
and facilities must be completed by the Site Liaison and signed by the Program Coordinator.
Facilities:
o A safe outdoor running space such as a track or the perimeter of a field.
o An indoor meeting place in case of rain. This could be a gymnasium, cafeteria, classroom, or
the hallways.
A plan to work with the Program Coordinator to recruit participants. A minimum of eight girls is
needed, and up to 15 girls will be accepted per team.
Volunteers are needed to meet the coaching requirements below.
What are the coaching requirements?


Coaches can be teachers, parents, or community members who are 21 or older and support the
GOTR mission.
There must be two adult coaches present at every practice. We accept a minimum of two coaches and
a maximum of four coaches per team to fulfill this requirement.

Coaches must attend practice at least once a week for the season. Practice is held twice a week for 90
minutes after school.
All coaches must provide the PA State Police background check, PA DHS Child Abuse clearance, and
FBI Criminal Background check prior to the beginning of the season. Please allow adequate time for
processing these clearances.
One coach at each practice must be CPR certified. Each team may send a coach to a CPR class
provided by PinnacleHealth (dates TBD).
New coaches must complete an online coach application.
All coaches must attend a training session in prior to the start of the season.
o New coaches must attend a 5 hour session.
o Returning coaches must attend a 1 hour session.
Process for Signing Up Your Team:
1. New teams should schedule a call or meeting with the Program Coordinator at (717) 763-4879.
2. Work with your school/site and the Program Coordinator to ensure that the above requirements are
in place.
3. All teams must sign up online (link will be available on our website) by June 15, 2015.
4. If your team is accepted, we will contact you regarding coach training and important season
information.
Important Dates:






Online Team Sign Up: April 15, 2015 – June 15, 2015
New Coach Training (first time coaches only): TBD in August 2015
Returning Coach Training: TBD in August 2015
Online Participant Registration: August 10, 2015 – August 23, 2015
Fall 2015 Season Begins: September 8, 2015
Girls on the Run FROZEN 5K: TBD in November 2015
