Advanced Apprenticeship in Intelligence Analysis Level 3 This is an exciting, new opportunity for employees working in intelligence and data analysis roles to gain a qualification relevant to their skill set. The Advanced Apprenticeship in Intelligence Analysis is a newly released qualification, which allows candidates to study a programme that is entirely specific to their role. Previously, candidates were only able to join mainstream Business Administration or IT programmes, however they can now achieve a qualification which is both relevant and highly prestigious. What’s more, the qualification offers parity with analysts working at the highest levels of military intelligence operations. Candidates will have a rewarding and technical career, providing vital support to public and private sector organisations – such as councils, banking, IT, financial services, energy and utility companies. The role may involve gathering and collating data from a wide range of sources – both human and electronic – in order to provide analysis to those involved in high-level strategic and tactical decision making. Who is it suitable for? What does the qualification cover? Any role requiring the following competencies: Candidates will gain advanced competencies in intelligence analysis, including: • Collection of data from various sources • Analysing data using one or more recognised techniques • Identifying patterns and trends within data • Forming assessments based on analysis • Creating and disseminating products or reports based on the results of data analysis, such as detailed written intelligence reports, intelligence based presentations, statistical analysis products and link analysis charts Examples roles The Apprenticeship is suitable for Intelligence Analysts, Data Analysts and Officers and Managers working in financial, counter fraud, risk assessment, cyber threat and trend analysis roles in the following public and private sectors: • Council Counter Fraud and Tax Collection departments • HM Revenue & Customs • Insurance and debt recovery companies • Banking and financial services organisations • IT organisations dealing with cyber threats • Energy and utility companies • HM Forces – Air Force, Army, Marines and Navy • Police Forces • Intelligence Agencies – MI5 and MI6 • UK Visa and Immigration Services • Serious Fraud Office • In-depth understanding of the intelligence cycle • Comprehensive understanding of collection methods and capabilities • Understanding of audit trails relating to intelligence analysis • An understanding of the security and intelligence handling requirements relating to national legislation • Detailed analytical techniques training (theory and practical) – to include link analysis, analysis of competing hypothesis, cone of plausibility, backcasting and SWOT analysis • Additional analytical techniques training as required by the candidate’s role • The ability to create and disseminate products or reports based on the results of data analysis • Training will also focus on developing the ability to effectively disseminate intelligence The model Capital Apprenticeships will: • carry out a full induction to explain the requirements of the Apprenticeship • this will cover: apprentice, employer and training provider responsibilities; on and off-the-job training; framework qualifications; guided learning hours; the process for review of progress and any additional support that may be needed • appoint a tutor who will visit at least once a month to: review training activities; provide tuition and support and assess any work or evidence the apprentice has produced • the progress will be reviewed with you and your apprentice, before jointly agreeing to an action plan for the next month’s activities • manage everything associated with the funding and the registration and certification of the qualifications • deliver a combination of 10 knowledge and skills workshops with vocational assessments (details below) • workshops may be delivered on employer premises or at regional centres What are the benefits?
