Painting on Silk
Wednesday April 22 ~ 1:30-3:30
Our Painting on Silk Workshops have been so popular that we have been asked to “do it again”. Participants
use fabric dyes to create a colorful one-of-a-kind 14"X 72" silk scarf. They make great gifts, but many times the
creator can’t part with the finished product! Participants who are comfortable with their drawing skills can add
details while others can create free form designs that do not require any drawing skills. Workshop is limited to
10 participants, so you must register in advance. Payment is due by Friday April 17th. All materials will be
provided. Fee is $15.
Matter of Balance: Concerns about Falling

you manage concerns about falls and provide practical strategies to increase your activity levels. Participants
will learn to set realistic goals to increase activity, change their environment to reduce fall risk, and to exercise
to increase strength and balance. The program meets every Thursday for 8 weeks from 9:30-11:30, May 7-June
25. Registration is required by May 1. To register call 802- 468-3093.
Working Together…Welcome SCSEP Staff
The Castleton Community Center is fortunate to have SCSEP staff help us provide important programs and
services for the community. Janice Hayes, our afternoon receptionist, John Klayer our maintenance person and
John Thomas our kitchen manager are all part of the SCSEP training program and we are grateful to have them
here. Associates for Training and Development administers the Senior Community Service Employment
Program (SCSEP), which helps older adults get back into the workforce by providing paid occupational skills
and workplace experience training. The purpose of SCSEP is to provide training and skill building opportunities
to program participants while providing much needed community service to local non-profits such as the
Castleton Community Center. We are now fully staffed thanks to the Vt. Associates program. A special thank
you to all the volunteers who have been filling in during the time we were not fully staffed and for their
continued generous donation of time and talent to the Community Center.

DUPLICATE BRIDGE RETURNS TO THE LAKES REGION
Rubber and party bridge players, as well as those with experience in duplicate, have been meeting at the
Wellness Center each Monday starting at 1 PM in order to enrich and enhance their bridge experience.
Duplicate bridge is played using ‘boards’ which store the cards dealt. This allows multiple players the chance
to bid, declare and defend against other pairs holding the exact ‘hands.’ Wins and losses are based upon puzzle
solving techniques and communication skills rather than ‘the luck of the draw.’ Tips to improve play, as well as
hand reviews, are available. The venue is spacious, well lit and comfortably temperature regulated. The
atmosphere is gentle and non-threatening. The players are your neighbors. Call Judi at 802-287-5756 for more
details, or just stop in. Partners are always guaranteed.

Associates for Training and Development administers the Senior Community Service Employment Program
(SCSEP), which helps older adults get back into the workforce by providing paid occupational skills and
workplace experience training. Geared specifically for income-qualified workers age 55+, the purpose of
SCSEP is to provide training and skill building opportunities to program participants while providing much
needed community service to local non-profits such as the Castleton Community Center. If you think you might

Accessing “Access”
PEGTV’s weekly news magazine program “ACCESS” has a featured senior segment every week, regarding
health, wellness and a variety of other topics. We would love input from you! What kind of stories would you
like to see? What issues are you most concerned about? Feel free to call Producer/Host Amanda Wheeler at
747-0151 or email her at [email protected]
Bottle & Can Redemption Bin
Bring your redeemable bottles and cans to the Center. Our handy bin behind the Wellness Center is still

weather melts the snow. We’ll redeem them and all proceeds will be used for our programs.
Cartridges for Cash
Thanks to all who have been bringing used printer cartridges to the Center for recycling. Recycling is an
effective alternative to trashing our environment and an easy way to help the Center raise funds for our
programs and services. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
MagnaVision TV
The Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired has provided a Magnavision TV for our members
and guests. The Magnavision TV is used to enlarge documents so the visually impaired can easily read them. It
