APPLICATION FOR ACCREDITATION CATEGORY D
Accreditation to Teach Religious Education
All teachers of Religious Education are Catholic and demonstrate an ongoing commitment
to their own faith journey, the Catholic faith community, the Catholic Tradition and the
teachings of the Catholic Church in the areas of faith and morals along with regular
participation in Sunday Eucharist and, more generally, in the life of the parish.
Teachers of Religious Education possess a formal qualification and have the necessary
background knowledge and a professional commitment to the Vision and Mission of
Catholic Education.
In order to be accredited as a teacher of Religious Education, teachers complete:
1.
A major undergraduate course of study in Religious Education/Theology in the
Bachelor of Education or other undergraduate teaching degree from a Catholic
University with a minimum of five approved units of study (minimum of six approved
units of study for students commencing their undergraduate studies from the
beginning of 2013) or
2. The Graduate Certificate in Religious Education through a Catholic University or
3. The Postgraduate Certificate in Education (RE) through a Catholic University or
4.
A Master Degree in Religious Education or Theology through a Catholic Tertiary
Institution and
5. Category A Accreditation and
6. Category B Accreditation
Upon individual application, teachers may also be accredited to teach Religious Education
if they have previously been accredited to teach Religious Education in another State or
Territory of Australia, provided their accreditation complies with the minimum
requirements of the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn.
