Learn some ways to deal with this issue with others in the same situation. Please join us for an evening of learning and fellowship at Holy Spirit Church at 7 pm on Wednesday, May 27 in the Fellowship Hall. The Webster Parishes adult faith discussion group meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month to help us learn about and live our faith. Our format is a brief presentation of Catholic teaching on a topic that one of us has researched followed by a facilitated discussion. Father Tim Horan will be in attendance. Personal experiences, questions and opinions are welcome! We are free to express views that are not aligned with Catholic teaching. We may disagree but do not judge one another. Join us and bring a friend! Diocesan Missions Sunday Today is Diocesan Missions Sunday honoring this year the Sisters of Mercy’s fifty years of presence in Chile. We also acknowledge the missionary efforts of the Sisters of St Joseph in Brazil. We are called to take part in the missionary work of the Church. We may not all have to move to another town or city to do so, but impelled by the Holy Spirit, each one of us is to move beyond our daily concerns, important as they are, to help others live in the faith that sustains us. Bishop Salvatore Matano calls us to a responsible sharing in the missionary works of the Diocese of Rochester. No diocese is truly a diocese unless it extends beyond its own borders and allows itself to be touched by the presence of other churches. As you sent me into the world, so I send them into the world." In his prayer to God the Father in today's Gospel, Jesus gives an interesting perspective on what it means to follow him. He suggests that--like himself--his disciples have a mission in a world to which they do not belong. Clearly, their "not belonging" doesn't mean not participating. It doesn't mean being separated from the world or avoiding the world. On the contrary, it means a very real encounter with the world. Jesus came into the world and sincerely engaged people and institutions by teaching, serving, and praying. But all the while, as he told Pontius Pilate, he knew that his kingdom did "not belong to this world" (cf. Jn 18:36). Jesus' work on earth had the greater purpose of serving the kingdom of heaven. As Christians, we should also have our eyes on this eternal kingdom. Through our baptism, we are members of the heavenly realm, and through this sacrament we are also equipped to bring a taste of heaven to earth. Our place in this world is to make connections to God's kingdom. We are not called to ignore the activity of the world and just wait until eternity comes around. Rather, we are called to share the love of God through our acts of service, our dedication to our vocations, and our commitment to making the world a better place for everyone. A proactive approach like this keeps us rooted in our fundamental identity as followers of Jesus. The world may try to distract us from our mission or convince us that it's not important. But we shouldn't buy the lie. After all, we Christians have been "consecrated in truth." © Liturgical Publications Inc by Pat Allen Church of the Holy Spirit Parish Information Mailing Address: 1355 Hatch Road, Webster, NY 14580 Office Hours:…….….…Monday thru Friday 8 am to 4 pm Phone:………………………...………………585-671-5520 Email:………………..……………….…[email protected] Fax:…………………………………………….585-671-7262 Website.…..………..www.ChurchofHolySpiritWebster.org Pastor: Rev.
