a week. Located at the City Beach.
Equipment Check-Out
Did you know that you can check out
basketballs, horseshoes and even bocce ball
equipment at the Albert Lea Aquatic Center?
Of course you can! Stop by with a photo ID
(license/school) and pick up some equipment
to use at the on-site basketball and bocce ball
courts or even over to the horseshoe pits at
Frank Hall Park. There is no fee!
Looking for a place to have that family reunion
or birthday party? Why not have it at the park?
Parks & Recreation rents facilities at Edgewater,
Pioneer and Fountain Lake Parks. Facilities
must be rented for a minimum of two hours,
(cancellations must be made 30 days prior to
use to receive a refund). No refunds due to
weather. Prices do not include 7.375% sales
tax. All parks and facilities are tobacco free
and alcohol is not allowed in the park. For

SPECIAL EVENTS
Minute to Win It
Buses will pick kids up at the play parks and bring
them to Lakeview Park for a friendly Minute to Win
it competition. Bus will pick up kids at Academy,
Hawthorne, Hayek, Southwest and Sondergaard
and bring out to Lakeview and back again.
Afternoon Play Parks will not open that day. Please
note: you do not need to ride the bus to
participate in this activity. *Please bring a sack
lunch and drink for your child.

kinds, children’s gallery and
ventriloquist, Shari Loughary!
We will also have a sidewalk
chalk mural contest with prize
give-a-ways.

Ventriloquist show will begin at 5:30 p.m. Plus,
our “Wishing Tree” is back! Stop out and jot
down your wish and tie it in the tree. Wishes will
be kept up for one week (dependent on weather).

Parents Night Out!

Mom and Dad, treat yourself and your kids! Bring
the little rascals out to Edgewater Park where we
will entertain and feed them. Kids will enjoy
games, scavenger hunts, kickball, volleyball, arts
and crafts, while you enjoy the night off. Children
must be potty-trained. You MUST pre-register.

Put your imagination in gear and go! Join us for
Touch-A-Truck where kids get a chance to get up
close to their favorite vehicles and rub elbows with
their hometown heroes. Touch-A-Truck is a FREE,
fun, family event enjoyed by kids of all ages! An
assortment of vehicles will be featured including a
Fire Engine, Police Vehicles and even airplanes!

Tournament
Are you the Master of Foosball, the King of Box
Hockey or the Ruler of Ping Pong?
Bring your friends and family out for an evening
of friendly competition. We will also have a
friendly game of kickball. Bus will pick up kids at
Academy, Hawthorne, Lakeview, Southwest and
Sondergaard and bring out to Hayek Park and
back again. Afternoon Play Parks will not open

Beach Luau
Bring your family out for warm weather fun! Enjoy
limbo and hula hoop contests, scooter races,
giant volleyball, sand bowling, a sandcastle
contest, a bonfire, smores and DJ! Also, bring
your suits and cool off in the lake. Lifeguards will
be on duty from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sandcastle
judging will begin at 8:00 p.m.

PLAYPARKS
PLAYPARK SCHEDULE
Mini Recreation Centers for Everyone!
Parks will operate on a split schedule. Hayek,
Lakeview and Sondergaard will be open during
the mornings and Academy, Hawthorne and
Southwest during the afternoons. Play Parks will
be open Monday-Thursday with two leaders at
each to supervise the building and grounds and
assist children and families in creating a fun and
happy summer! Each day offers something new
and exciting. Check out our calendar below.
Parents are encouraged to stop by their
neighborhood park and meet their Park
Leaders.
Parents did you know that
playparks are open to everyone?! That
means you or a family member are more
than welcome to come and utilize the parks
with your little ones. Think of them as a
mini recreation center!

Stamping 101
1:45 pm in the Craft Room. You must register
for the class. In this class you will learn the
basics of rubber stamping.You’ll create five
handmade greeting cards using inks, stamps,
paper and die cut shapes. All supplies will be
provided for this class.
Advanced Stamping
6:45 pm in the Craft Room. You must register
for the class. In this class you will make three
cards and learn some new fun techniques.
Please bring your basic stamping kit with you.

and others to set foot outdoors and get to
know your local parks. Here’s the
challenge…head with your family to at least
15 parks this summer and see what they have
to offer. Take a picture next to the park sign.
When you’ve hit 15, send the pictures to us
for a chance to win great prizes from local
businesses! Pick up your passport guide at the
Parks and Recreation office located at the City
Arena or download it online at

Opportunities
Consider giving your time and talents through
volunteering with the Albert Lea Parks and
Recreation Department. Throughout the year,
we host many special events that require the
assistance of volunteers. Individuals, businesses
and social groups are encouraged to call and
find out how to take part. To volunteer or for

Tennis Camp
Why not take a swing at tennis this summer? All
that’s needed is a pair of sneakers and the
willingness to learn and have fun! Tennis skills will
be taught through a variety of games, relays and
drills. Tennis will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays at
ALHS Tennis courts. Rackets are provided. Make
sure to bring drinking water for your athlete.

fun and make a mess!
Youth Pickleball Clinic
Pickleball is a cross between badminton, tennis
and ping pong. It is played on a court ¼ the size
of a tennis court and uses a paddle and a whiffle
ball. To see how the sport is played go to
www.pickleball.com. Equipment will be provided.
Make sure to bring drinking water for your athlete.
The Pickleball courts are located next to the
Aquatic Center.

Ages 7-13
Grab your friends and head outdoors where we’ll
be camping out at beautiful Edgewater Park!
Come and enjoy canoeing, scavenger hunts,
games, a guided night hike and many more camp
activities. We’ll also be making lunch, supper and
breakfast the next morning over the campfire!
Items to bring will be handed out when you
register. Some tents will be available, but if you
have your own we encourage you to bring it. We
will be canoeing from Brookside Boat Landing to
Edgewater Park. Get out and enjoy the lakes!
Camp-out is sponsored by Parks and Recreation
and ISD #241 Environmental Learning Center.
Backyard Camp
Ages 7-13 years
Bean Bag Toss, Capture the Flag, Kickball, Relay
races, Scavenger hunts, Tag games and
Wiffleball. Sound like fun? Come and be a part of
our backyard crew as we learn classic games that
keep kids busy and happy! Lots of running and
jumping so dress for active play each day. Please
bring a healthy snack and water for your child.

Farm Camp Minnesota
Farm Camp Minnesota is a fun place for
Minnesota Youth to get together and learn about
modern agriculture. Their purpose is to provide a
fun, educational experience for campers to learn
about modern agriculture and to understand how
and where their food is produced. Farm Camp
Minnesota is a one day event held at
Farmamerica near Waseca, MN. Each camper
participates in seven different breakout sessions
where they get hands on experience learning
about Corn, Soybeans, Swine, Dairy, Beef, Poultry,
and Tractors and Farm Equipment.
When: Monday, August 10th
Time: Bus leaves City Arena at 8:00 a.m. and will
return approx. 4:00 p.m. - Camp runs from
9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Where: Farmamerica (west of Waseca, MN)
Fee: $20 per child (includes lunch and snack, tshirt and other goodies)
*After June 12th fee increases to $25.00

You may register for ONE session and must finish
the session before registering for another. Levels
1 through 7 and Aqua Tots are offered at times
listed below; you may check the level descriptions
when you register. Please register online at
www.ci.albertlea.mn.us or at the City Arena. You
may NOT register at the Aquatic Center.
Nothing can replace close adult supervision
when using the Aquatic Center. All children 6
years and under must be supervised by a
paid adult swimmer. Adult must be within
arm’s reach of the child at all times.
Two Dollar Tuesdays
Bring your whole family out to the Albert Lea
Aquatic Center on Tuesdays for a special rate.
Each person only pays $2.00 (includes tax) to
enter the aquatic facility. Children 2 and under
are $1.00 (tax included).
Grandparents Day
Opa and Oma, bring your little cuties out for
some fun in the sun! One free Grandparent
admission with one paid swimmer on Mondays
throughout the summer.
Lap Swim
The Aquatic Center is open for lap swim! Enjoy
your lunch break in the cool, cool, water!

Pool Crashers (Ages 13-18 years only)
The Albert Lea Aquatic Center is reserved just for
you and your friends! Come out and enjoy the
warm weather, your friends and music.

Splash With Me
Ages 6 months-3 years
Come and enjoy open playtime at the Aquatic
Center. Let your child splash around and use our
water toys. Come as often as you want, although
8 meetings are scheduled! What a great way to
introduce them to the water. An adult must
accompany child in the water. Additional staff is
available to assist those with special needs. Swim
diapers are required.

Water Aerobics
Ages 14-Adult
Jump right in-the water’s great! In this fun class
we will use noodles, aquatic gloves and barbell
floaters. There will be NO class scheduled during
Fair Week.

Play Day at the Pool
Kids and families come and enjoy a fun-filled day
at the Albert Lea Aquatic Center! Power 96 will
be broadcasting LIVE. We’ll play lots of games
with the kids and little kids; and you’ll have a
chance to win awesome prize packages!

9th Annual Doggie Dip
Bring your puppy dog out for some well-deserved
fun in the sun! The Albert Lea Aquatic Center will
be open for dogs and their “humans” to go
swimming. Dogs must have proof of current
vaccinations. Human companions will take full
responsibility for their pups. This includes proper
disposal of doggie doo doo, controlling their dog
and addressing inappropriate or aggressive
behavior. Chemicals will be adjusted for the
“different breed of swimmer.”
*We will be collecting donations for the Humane
Society of Freeborn County. Items such as
dog/cat food, toys, treats, and blankets are
appreciated. For a complete listing check out
