From the Editor’s Chair
Last Wednesday we held the Church Annual Parish Meeting. The first item was
election of Churchwardens and we are delighted to report that John Helliar was
elected as Churchwarden and that Charlie Thackway continued as Churchwarden
so we now have two Churchwardens!! At the Annual Meeting we re-elected our
three Deputy Churchwardens so we now have a much stronger team. Joining the
Parochial Church Council we welcome Ian and Janet Buick.
This was the first APCM since Pauline came to our Parish and she commented
how she had been so warmly welcomed but was still discovering the many people
who assist with all the jobs across the Parish. In 2014 we managed to pay our
Share and also to clear the arrears from a previous year but we are still living
hand to mouth in meeting all our costs. So that everyone is made aware of the
financial position there will be a quarterly report in this newsletter. Our thanks
to everyone who help us to provide mission and worship across the parish in so
many different ways.
We are still awaiting the telephone for our Benefice office but hope for
progress this next week. Fingers crossed!!!!

Around and About in the Benefice
Warminster & District Foodbank
We continue to deliver food donations to the Foodbank on a weekly basis. Thank you
everyone for your continued support. Please leave all donations at any of our three
churches at the end of a service. We shall arrange for delvery to the foodbank in
Warminster.
Urgently needed!
Warminster Foodbank always requires donations of foodstuffs but at the current time very
much needs donations of fruit juice (1 litre packs) and tinned vegetables. We collect at all
services at St Margaret’s, Corsley and deliver to the Warminster Foodbank shortly
afterwards. Please leave all your donations at any of the churches in Corsley or
Chapmanslade.
As a reminder the following basic foods go into food boxes:- Cereals, long life milk, pasta,
pasta sauce, tea bags (40s or 80s), instant mash potatoes, fruit juice, biscuits and rice. Tins
of:- Puddings (milk or sponge), tomatoes, vegetables, fruit, fish, meat, soup and baked
beans
It is also nice to be able to give people a treat e.g.: Snack noodles, chocolate bars, jam,
pickle, sauce and tinned spaghetti.

contribute an article for the newsletter or would like to read about a particular subject in the
newsletter please do let us know. The newsletter is our way of reaching over 120
households across the Parish on a weekly basis and we constantly seek to present
information on our life in our Church Parish that is useful to you. Please do let us know if
there are any gaps!!

Our Friends in South Sudan
Dear friends
Today has been Election Day in Sudan but no-one has thought the election would be free and fair; the
EU did not even send election monitors as they declared there "was doubt that it would produce
credible results". President Bashir was the only candidate and all the opposition parties boycotted the
poll - which was variously described as a farce, illegitimate, and profoundly fraudulent. The election
was intended to provide an appearance of legitimacy to attract support from Western Governments.
Meanwhile there has been more fighting in South Kordofan and Blue Nile areas as the government
continued to attack civilian settlements. And Sudanese planes this week attacked various locations in
West and Northern Bahr-el-Ghazal in South Sudan, destroying buildings including a school and killing
four civilians. It has also been declared again by the South Sudan Government that Sudan is arming
and supporting the rebel forces of Riek Machar. Pray for a change of heart and mind in this ruthless
and brutal administration, and for courage and persistence in those working for justice and equity.
In South Sudan, away from the areas of fighting, longer-term problems persist: In Leer county of Unity
state, 783 children have been diagnosed as severely malnourished. In Akobo county, on the eastern
border with Ethiopia, students completing primary school cannot proceed to secondary education
because there are no teachers; since the county came under the control of rebels, the government
has stopped teachers' salaries so they have had to find other means of livelihood. Climate change is
also affecting South Sudan: since 1970 the annual rainfall has dropped by between 10 and 20%, and
the temperature has risen by 1 degree Celsius. There are more droughts in May/June and more
floods in August/September - and the government has yet to work out a coherent response. Pray for
wisdom for those in authority responsible for finding a response to these issues.
But there are gleams of humanity in the darkness: in Abyei, 4 children aged 6-12 who were abducted
by gunmen recently have been released after mediation by local tribal leaders in support of the UN
interim security force. And in Warrap State the Committee for National Healing, Peace and
Reconciliation is rolling out its national plan:. A training programme will take place in May 2015 during
which 50 peace mobilisers will be trained to facilitate and document consultations held at the Payam
(parish) level in each county of Warrap state. Particular emphasis will be placed on ensuring the
voices of women as well as other important stakeholders are heard and included. Pray for this
process to be fruitful, and to show the way for other states.
Please continue to pray also for Bishop Justin and the Diocese of Maridi; for the Chaima Christian
Institute, its staff and the s tudents we sponsor; and this week for the Kozi Archdeaconry
This Archdeaconry falls in the extreme northern part of the diocese of Maridi about 55 miles from the
main town of Maridi. It is extremely difficult to access Kozi during rainy seasons. The Archdeaconry is
led by Rev. Charles Yeremiah.
Ø Pray for Rev. Charles and all pastors in the Archdeaconry that they will be committed to their call
amidst all the challenges in the area.
And please pray earnestly for our fund-raising quiz evening on 24 April - for a good take-up of tickets
