FINAL PRESS RELEASE FOR THE FIRST MOZAMBIQUE CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION The first Mozambique Corporate Social Responsibility Conference and Exhibition, CSR MOZ 2015, took place at the Joachim Chissano International Conference Centre in Maputo, Mozambique, from 19 – 20 March 2015 under the theme “CSR Mozambique: A catalyst for social inclusion and prosperity” and had a participation of over 200 attendees, including delegates, exhibitors and guests. CSR MOZ 2015 was organized by AME Trade Ltd, in partnership with the National Hydrocarbons Company of Mozambique, ENH, the Confederation of Trade Associations of Mozambique, CTA, and the Geological and Mining Association of Mozambique, AGMM. The Conference was sponsored and supported by the following institutions: Sasol, Anadarko, ExxonMobil, BCI, GE Oil&Gas, Canada High Commission, Intelec Holdings, Moza Banco, Royal Embassy of Norway, Vodacom, CB&I JGC-Fluor, Schlumberger and Polana Serena Hotel. The CSR MOZ 2015 opening session started at 8.45 AM and was honored by the presence of the Honorable Minister of Gender, Children and Social Action, Cidalia Chauque Oliveira, the Honorable Minister of Education and Human Development, Luis Jorge Ferrao, the Honorable Vice-Minister of Earth, Environment and Rural Development, Ana Senda, and more than 200 representatives of public and private sector institutions, NGOs, Embassies and delegates. The opening ceremony had speeches by ENH representative, Eduardo Naiene, Sasol representative, John Sichinga, Anadarko representative, Alcidio Mausse, and, officially opening the conference, the speech made the Honorable Minister of Gender, Children and Social Action. At her opening speech, the Honorable Minister of Gender, Children and Social Action No seu discurso de abertura, Sua Excelência Ministra do Género, Criança e Acção Social apealed to companies operating in Mozambique to join the Government on its efforts to combat poverty through the conception and implementation of social responsibility actions in the Country, particularly in those communities surrounding their areas of activity. After the Minister’s speech the opening ceremony was completed and the presentation and debate fase of the Conference began. Presentations that followed during the first day were made by the National Institute of Social Action(INAS), Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy, Sasol, Anadarko, GE Oil & Gas, Ulula, Norwegian Embassy, Intelec Holdings, ExxonMobil and Fluor. Still on the first day, during the event Gala Dinner, the Organizing Committee offered a donation of 128’455.00 meticais to AACOSIDA, an association that renders assistance to children orphaned by HIV. The donation was made to complete the construction of five dormitories that were recently destroyed by the floods that affected Maputo in the last few months. The second day of the event was marked by presentations by the Investment Promotion Centre of Mozambique(CPI), Vodacom, Whatana Investments, SASOL, Mr. Florival Mucave, BCI, Twigg Exploration and Mining Lda, Kenmare Resources, CB&I, Coca-Cola Mozambique, Shell and UNICEF. The closing remarks were made by CSR MOZ 2015 project manager, Sergio Silva, who thanked all representatives for participating at the event, the first of its kind in Mozambique, and closed his remarks by urging attendees to consider how to better incorporate corporate social responsibility practices into the core of their daily activities.
