Health professionals are increasingly required to be able to critically evaluate
research evidence as a basis for the delivery of evidence-based practice. This is a
course beyond introductory level and it is a discussion and practical application of
understanding the application and presentation of statistical methods and results
for publication. Participants of this workshop should already have understanding
of basic statistical concepts as well as experience in basic statistical analyses.
Using case examples from health research frontier, and the framework of the
Statistical Analyses and Methods in the Published Literature (SMPL) Guidelines,
the emphasis of your learning will be how to systematically and critically appraise
statistical aspects of a published article and to be able to assess the quality of the
statistical methodology.
