When Lexus launched the first RX in 1998, the
model went on to be one of the pioneers in the
luxury Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) segment in the
automobile industry. The RX offered the
proposition of the first ever car that combines all
the flexibility, practicality and durability of a SUV
with the handling, performance, refinement and
ride of a luxury sedan. For the new RX, we
challenged ourselves with creating the best, most
innovative luxury SUV ever built – a car
engineered without compromise, and capable of
resetting benchmarks for performance, comfort
and craftsmanship. We started by designing a
bold new Lexus ‘face’ with class-leading
aerodynamics. Next, our engineers developed
innovative new Lexus Hybrid Drive for the RX
Hybrid, then an incredibly smooth V6 petrol
engine for the RX 350 and also a compact
engine RX 270 with the same level of comfort as
the other two in the range. Equipped with
advanced technologies like Remote Touch and an
all new F SPORT edition, the new RX is
extraordinarily enjoyable to drive. To achieve this,
we drove countless laps on the gruelling
Nurburgring racetrack, proving – quite literally –
that we don’t stop until we exceed our own
benchmarks.

Which is why we are proud to unveil L-finesse
– a new Lexus design philosophy that lets the new
generation RX exude a sporty, powerful exterior
with a commanding road presence.
Turning heads at every curve and corner is the
newly designed front grille. Featuring a strong and
expressive frontal design, the upper and lower
grilles have been combined to create a prominent
spindle shape at the front of the vehicle. This bold,
elegant and highly individual grille treatment makes
the RX instantly recognisable at first glance.
Great design shouldn’t just seek to enthral and
amaze, it should also further the vehicle’s prowess
and functionality. That’s where the streamlined
aerodynamic body comes into play. Beautifully
streamlined, class-leading aerodynamics are the
results of smooth underbody covers, specially
tuned suspensions that reduce the vehicle’s wind
resistance and the integration of the wiper blade
inside the rear spoiler.

back 50mm for improved ease of entry.

Not just an eco-friendly vehicle, the new
RX Hybrid is also a top performer, delivering
performance and functionality that surpasses
its predecessors. Powered by the aggressive
second-generation Lexus Hybrid Drive, this
top-of-the-class Lexus intelligently combines a
3.5-litre V6 petrol engine with two high-output
electric motors. This means that the vehicle’s
performance is not compromised, delivering
rapid acceleration and thrilling power by going
from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.8 seconds. The
3.5-litre engine is also paired with a front motor
and Electric Four-Wheel Drive that drives the
rear wheels as needed with a rear motor that
operates independently of the front motor. Or,
you can select the EV mode to drive at near
silence decibels, using no petrol and emitting
zero carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide.
Further enhancing the vehicle’s eco-friendly
properties is a regenerative function that
converts kinetic energy into electrical energy
during decelerating and braking, and uses it

NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS
When starting off, the electric motor can propel the RX Hybrid up
to 45 km/h, with electric power being supplied from the hybrid
battery. At this point, the vehicle is almost silent, uses no petrol and
produces zero emissions.
At speeds above 45 km/h, the advanced petrol engine cuts in, almost
silently, but still receives assistance from the electric motor when
required. Through the near perfect distribution of its dual power
sources, the RX Hybrid provides exceptional driving comfort – together
with lower emissions and fuel consumption.

As the vehicle accelerates, the electric motor instantaneously
supplements the petrol engine. This delivers a surge of torque to
provide powerful linear acceleration precisely when you need it.
When decelerating or coming to a halt, the petrol engine turns off,
cutting emissions to zero. Brake, or take your foot off the accelerator,
and regenerative braking harnesses the kinetic energy lost in other cars.
It converts this into electrical energy for storage in the hybrid battery,

FULL CONTROLS AT YOUR FINGERTIPS
The Remote Touch Interface (RTI) is a mouse-operated controller that lets you
manage the vehicle’s operations at your fingertips. This RTI technology makes it
possible for you to intuitively control the on-screen buttons and pointer with
your fingertips, by providing feedback to your palm via a knob that creates
the impression of operating buttons on the screen. Ergonomically positioned on
the centre console, the RTI system is easily accessed even while you are driving
at high speeds.
Complementing the RTI system is the state-of-the-art 8-inch wide
Electro Multi Vision (EMV) display that is designed to generate easy-to-view,
attractive graphics that reliably conveys critical driving information. Particularly,
it showcases display and operational functions for features such as audio and visual
playback, climate control, navigation maps and even fast route searches. The nifty
Lexus Navigation System also has a convenient estimated time of arrival display and
a route trace display function.

When the vehicle is operating on
Electric Vehicle (EV) mode, you can heighten
the vehicle’s eco-friendly functionalities by
driving at lower speeds over shorter distances
using just the vehicle’s two powerful
electric motors, which releases zero emissions
and consumes no fuel. This mode is also
designed to minimise driving noise,
ideal for quiet rides at night.
In both the Eco and Normal modes, the vehicle’s
instrumentation turns a tranquil blue shade,
while it turns a fiery red when in the Sport mode.
In Sport mode, drive force is provided by the vehicle
during mid-range acceleration, which enhances
acceleration response. The Electric Power Steering
(EPS) system also change when the Sport mode
is selected, offering you the enjoyment of sporty driving.
The convergence of top-of-the-game technology
and Lexus’ cutting-edge research has made it easier
for you to craft your own driving style.
The Drive Mode Selector, found exclusively on
the RX Hybrid, lets you customise your driving
performance through the selection of three drive
modes. When the vehicle is in Eco mode, the engine
power output, throttle opening, and air conditioning
are automatically controlled to minimise fuel use,
thus lowering the vehicle’s carbon footprint.

THE LEXUS F SPORT
The “F” in Lexus refers to the birthplace and
primary testing site of this high performance
division: Fuji Speedway, Japan’s FIA (Federation
Internationale de I’Automobile) - certified Grade
1 racetrack, located near the base of Mount Fuji.
For the first time, the F SPORT edition will be
introduced to both the RX 350 and RX Hybrid.
The new RX 350 and RX Hybrid F SPORT are

experienced team of Lexus ‘Drive Meisters’, the

The RX is equipped with dual-stage SRS driver airbag, dual-stage SRS
front passenger airbag, SRS knee airbags, SRS side airbags, and SRS
curtain shield airbags that significantly enhance the safety for you and
the passengers on board. A twin-chamber type airbag has been
adopted for the front passenger seat for excellent protection
performance. The dualstage front passenger airbag comprises two
chambers, which create a depression in the center of the airbag. Upon
deployment, the air bag secures the passenger’s upper body from

The Parking Assist Monitor and Side Monitor
systems* make parking and starting up a breeze
by displaying video from areas around the vehicle
that are difficult to see from the driver’s seat.
When parking in a garage or parallel parking, the
Parking Assist Monitor displays the vehicle’s rear
view, along with guidelines to help with reversing
maneuvers. The Side Monitor system* streams out
video from a camera mounted on the underside of
the passenger’s seat side-door mirror, that helps the
driver to check the left side of the vehicle and avoid
obstacles.

ENHANCED FOCUS ON THE ROADS
When it comes to designing a game-changing
luxury SUV, we didn’t stop at simply making a few
functionality tweaks or updating the appearance of
this classic icon. Instead, we rolled up our sleeves
and introduced a league of new technologies
that make your driving experience much more
effortless and intuitive. Features such as an improved
advanced instrument panel with combination
meters that feature a three-dimensional layout
and elegant indirect lighting, enhanced by a highcontrast multi-information display that presents
a range of easy-to-see driving and fuel economy
information. To further enhance intuitiveness and
driver convenience, the multi-information display
can also be toggled via a multi-information switch
on board the steering wheel.
Among other noteworthy features is an open door
window warning function that lets the driver close
all windows with a single switch on the steering
wheel, enhancing passenger safety.
Add to that, an optional Head-Up Display* projects
various driving information on the lower windshield
glass, enabling the driver to monitor them without
having to significantly altering his line of vision.

navigation directions, are projected directly onto
the windscreen within your field of vision. This lets
you check important data without looking away
from the road ahead.
