BRIEF BIO – Laura Dawson Laura Dawson is the founder of Dawson Strategic, which provides advice to business on cross-‐border trade, market access and regulatory issues. Her client work has focused on advocacy and strategic planning for businesses, associations and governments in the Canada-‐US, NAFTA and Asia-‐Pacific regions. Dawson is the director of the Canada Institute at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington DC and continues to serve as emeritus advisor at Dawson Strategic. She is a Canadian Defence & Foreign Affairs Institute Fellow and a Director of the Council of the Great Lakes Region. Previously, she served as senior advisor on U.S.-‐Canada economic affairs at the United States Embassy in Ottawa. In this position, Dawson contributed to the launch of the U.S.-‐Canada Regulatory Cooperation Council, the Border Vision Strategy, and the bilateral Government Procurement Agreement. From 1998 to 2008, she was a senior associate at the Centre for Trade Policy and Law advising government officials from more than 30 countries around the world on WTO negotiation and accession issues. Dawson taught international trade, Canada-‐U.S. relations and policy analysis at the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs and holds a PhD in political science.
