Keystone Capital Spring Camporee Gifford Pinchot State Park April 24-26, 2015 Highlights: Friday, April 24: Arrive Friday evening, set up camp in the Organized Group Tenting area (pads for parking trailer), SPL meeting (canoeing & Ultimate Frisbee sign-up), and Cracker Barrel. Saturday, April 25: Program (9am-Noon) New Cross-over Scouts will be testing their hiking skills Saturday morning by first completing Second Class Requirement 1a (compass & map) and then trekking out for a five mile hike (S.C. Req. 1b) through GPSP’s varying terrain. While on their adventure Scouts will be able to work on S.C. 6 (10 kinds of wild animals) and First Class 6 (10 kinds of native plants) to be recorded and reviewed in the afternoon with their Scoutmaster. Following lunch, the first part of the afternoon (1pm-3pm) will be dedicated for the individual Troops to work on any of the other new scout skills, either at our campsite area or somewhere more adventurous at GPSP. Scouts can also participate in the other activity areas. In the latter portion of the afternoon (3pm-5pm), scouts and leaders will be combining forces with the other scouts and scouters for a Service Project to benefit GPSP. Older Scouts will be utilizing many of the Gifford Pinchot State Park activities areas, working on their own Scout skills and Rank Requirements if needed or just having a fun day of activities. Available activities include Canoeing on Pinchot Lake, fishing (largemouth bass, hybrid striped bass, muskellunge, catfish, carp, walleye, crappie and sunfish. Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission laws apply, min. size bass limits), Disc Golf – two courses (Quaker’s Challenge Course has recreation and pro tees in a challenging, hilly course, approx. 1 mile hike from campsite), Sport Challenge – Ultimate Frisbee (set up a challenge competition with other Troops or Patrols), Biking (bring your own, limited trails, helmet required) or helping your leaders with new cross-over scouts with their hike or afternoon Rank Requirements. **Note on Canoeing: Canoers will be required to be “Swimmers.” SPL will be required to supply Roster at Friday’s SPL meeting certified by the Scoutmaster that listed scouts have passed swimmer’s test within the prior year and are rated as a Swimmer. Afternoon Service Project (3-5 pm approx.) for ALL Scouts and Scouters. Project will encompass laying stone for a new trail path and revitalizing existing trails in the Conewago Day Use Area. Stone will be delivered and near at hand to the project location. Special Note: Troops are asked to bring a wheelbarrow, rakes and shovels (scouts: bring your own work gloves) for the service project. Evening Campfire with Troop skits will be right in our campsite area and will be orchestrated by the Venture Crew 2010 Youth. Cost and Registration: $5 per person (scouts, scouters or visiting adults). Registration will include a special Camporee Patch. Troops will be responsible for all of their own meals. Good time to work on Cooking Requirements for any scouts needing them. Webelos are invited with their associated Troop to participate in the Cross-over Hiking adventure. Great opportunity to build Pack to Troop relationships. Directions: I-83 South Exit 35. Take PA 177 west/south approx. 5.6 miles and turn LEFT onto Alpine Rd. Go 3.3 miles and turn RIGHT onto East Camping Area. Proceed 0.6 miles, enter Campground on Right.
