From Glenn…..
I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable break, I’m sure you all enjoyed
the company of your children for 2 weeks of very nice weather. I am glad it
continued into this week, and must have been the reason there were so
many smiles on the faces of parents as they dropped children off.
We have had a very quiet week to start us off, but next week we start our
usual lining up of events. School Council is next Thursday night at 7.30pm.
Agendas will come home on Monday. Our School Council minutes are published on our website. You can keep abreast of what is going on, or you can
visit a meeting. See you there.
Inter-school Sport starts next Friday for the grade 4-6 children. We will be
heading off to Kinglake West on a bus and in cars. We will be playing Football, Netball A, Netball B, Rounders and T-Ball. Children will need to bring
appropriate sports gear and a BIG drink. We leave at 11.15am and return by
2.00pm, so it is a fairly normal day and lunch orders can be purchased.
Notes have gone home to those children who are involved.
We are having a Working Bee next Friday night, straight after school. We
will work from 3.45pm until 6ish, depending on light. Last term (daylight
saving time) we were unable to run a night, usually they occur during daylight saving times. We will have a BBQ tea and light refreshments afterwards, so it is a great time to meet others in our community.
Jobs to be done: grass planting, mulch spreading, tidying up, making a grade
1 garden bed, high pressure cleaning, spouting cleaning, painting gates, paving. Much of the equipment and materials will be here, but we need shovels,
rakes, and wheel barrows.
Saturday week is Anzac Day. There is a Dawn Service at Laurimar, on the
South East Corner of Laurimar Primary School. I will be going and laying a
wreath. If you have any inclination to do so, please feel free to join me and
perhaps bring the children. We will be talking about ANZAC day at school,
not to glorify war, but simply to honour those who were there. There have
been many instances of Australians showing great valour and courage in war
over the last hundred + years, especially in the defence of Australia in the
second World War on the Kokoda Track. ANZAC Day is a day to remember
this. I found a very interesting fact out recently. The first Australian to win
a VC at Gallipoli and therefore the first Australian in history to win one, on
his return to Australia campaigned vigorously about the futility of war. A
small flyer is attached regards the ceremony. See you there!
Year 7 Transition forms come home next Tuesday. Any queries, please come
and see me.
I was very remiss not mentioning the new addition to the Marsh family, baby
boy ‘Mac James’ born on 14th March. Lou and Kaine welcomed him into the
world along with his 3 sisters.

On Wednesday we begin our “Book Fair”. Parents, Grandparents, students etc can come in to the Library after
school on Wednesday and Thursday (3.30-4.30pm) and purchase books from our visiting collection. In most cases
children will be able to take books on the day, those ordered will take very little time to arrive. Last year the
school received over $1000 in credits from these sales, which put books on our Library’s shelves. The prices are
good, and our Library gets a boost…..everyone wins. To help promote Literacy, we are also holding a special Book
‘Cool Character’ Day. We will ask children to organise a costume to wear to school. There will be prizes and a parade in the morning. This will happen next Wednesday 29th April. See the flyer that was sent home yesterday.
Forms have gone home for the Camp DVD. If you have misplaced yours and would like to order please see Mrs Mollard.
Please note there has been a recent reported case of nits. Please check your child’s hair regularly.
